It's time to take my daughter to the dentist but she doesn't talk, and she screams around people she doesn't know, and I don't know what to do
The first time I took my son I googled pediatric special needs dentists. I found one I love who is very good.
My 4 year old is moderately autistic, and non-verbal. I know I should be starting to take him to the dentist on a regular basis now... but the thought of bringing him in there, and trying to get him to let the dentist do xrays or a cleaning kind of scares me. I live in a very small town, there is one dentist here, and I'm not sure if there are any pediatric dentists in the region that deal with autistic kids. Just wondering what other parents that might be in the same boat do when it comes to… read more

I am trying to locate a dentist for the girls. I would like to help my daughter as the previous autism dentist we had is no longer available to us. Does anyone have suggestions? The twins are 15 years old high and and low functioning and one is non.verbal.
No but a friend of mine had some luck with contacting Easter Seals in Chicago.
I am looking for services for my adult son who is profoundly autistic. He is afraid of needles. The dental place said it takes a year and a half appointments for people who need to be sedated.Thats ridiculous. He is 29,6ft,200lbs.I don't know where to turn.I am in Illinois.
Thank you,I will surely look into it.It seems like when he was a child it was easier for him to get appointments sooner.
Wow...dentists....first know that novicane may not work for some. You need a dentist that understands autism...also there are new meds for dentists to use when those cavities happen. Dr. Harris,DDS… read more
My son has his first dentist appointment coming up. We literally have zero idea what to expect - could be brilliant and handle like a champ, or super stressful. I called the dentist to ask questions beforehand, and she "assured" me that the doctors and staff are very skilled in handling a range of needs, developmental disabilities, children with autism, etc. She wasn't really entertaining my questions and my anxiety, just giving me "pat" statements, that were more on the lines of "don't worry… read more
You can try social stories if that is an option. In addition make sure you are visiting an actual "pediatric dentist" or a "special needs/care dentist". They are not only trained in special needs… read more
Has anyone ever heard of Angel Sense? If u have have u tried it? My son will be starting classes in September with BCIU/early intervention and im worried how he will do and how teachers will treat him. It has a tracker if ur kid goes missing and u can even listen in on conversation wherever they are. It snaps to clothing or backpack. Wanted to know if its worth getting for the price and is it really reliable. Its rated 5 star's. Let me know what u guys think.
You could look into Apples Air Tags. They are really just for gps, and don’t have video or audio capabilities, but you can hang or place them almost anywhere. If your child has a tendency to take off… read more
I'm looking for a dentist that takes Tricare for insurance (in the Silverdale/Bremerton, WA area) & deals with sedation. My son will not let a dentist near his mouth, or sit still. He barely sits still long enough for me to brush his teeth. I need to get a pre-authorization, so I need to find the dentist & get all the info first.
Thanks...I'm trying to avoid going to Seattle or Tacoma. I guess I just need to get on the net & start making phone calls to those on the provider list. I hate making phone calls, but now that my… read more
We go to a pediatric dentist in San Ramon. He has been the kids dentist since they got their teeth. I have never discussed their Do with him. The kids love him. They even recognize him outside if… read more
My son had dental work done previously through surgery & anesthesia because despite our efforts he was not going to cooperate. We tried social stories, practicing opening mouth, practice visits to dentist, coaxing him with his favorite treat (park, game, etc). We resorted to surgery. Since then, his front crown fell off twice
The first time his crown fell off, we went into the dentist after much discussion about what to expect. We explained it all, he helped with opening his mouth, he… read more
Ask the dentist to flavor the glue and tell your child he has to guess the flavor. That worked for us. But it will have to be the same flavor forevermore if it works. Good luck. You are in my prayers!
