Visitation
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have three children that are 12, 10 and 6. I am currently going through a divorce with their father. My 10 year old son, who has autism, is now refusing to go with his father at all. He doesn't want to spend any time with him at all. When I am able to convince him to go, the other two children end up miserable because their dad is constantly battling with their brother. I want my kids to see their father, and he is a very good father, but has always had a hard time connecting to our son with… read more

Art Therapists
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 10 year old son loves to draw and we've heard there are art therapists that work with autistic children therapuetically instead of the standard psychologists. We have a psychiatrist, but I'd love to have another person working with him emotionally and thought this was a unique idea. We live in Long Island, NY... thanks everyone.

Behavioral Issues At School Involving Oral Noises. Any Suggestions?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 7 with high functioning Asberger's recently he has been having difficulty with oral noises when things are very quiet. This is especially problematic at school for him. The teacher has started removing him from the classroom as a disciplinary measure. I've tried sugarless gum, but he says the noises have "tricked the gum and found a way out". I'm not even sure he is aware of it. I've called the school about the discipline issue, but he feels badly for disrupting class. I've also… read more

Talisman Transitions
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone been a part of the Talisman Transitions program in Hendersonville, NC? My son is 20 years old, graduating from community college in the spring 2013, and will transfer to university in the near future. However, we would like to find out more about this program before he ages out of it.

TinaS: Did you son attend Talisman Transitions? My sister-in-law and I are caregivers for our niece and we are considering the program as well.

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

All of this is so new and unheard of to me. My foster son was brought into my home almost 4 months ago and things were good all the sudden in the last few weeks the autism characteristics are coming out...(eating soap and toothpaste, agressive and violent, peeing all over his bedroom, not listening, not sleeping, not eating correctly anymore, etc) i know that he is capable if not doing any of these things because he didn’t do them when he was first placed in our home. Nothing has… read more
