A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is also going on 24 yrs. and is high functioning. Does your daughter use the internet or know how to text? Maybe they can be pen pals and share interests. 😊

Why In Some States Autism Qualifies For Disabled Parking Permit In In Other States It Doesn't?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I don't think Ohio does. They see autism as a gray area. I had asked about having to stay home with my son since he absolutely doesn't like my mom babysitting. They said that wasn't possible unless he… read more

Has Anyone Heard Of Having Virtual ABA Therapy For Their Child? I Just Think It Is Very Odd, Not Very Happy About It
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Also, I spoke with TCRC and was told that they don't provide ABA services anymore and that "a lot of parents are being misled" because other agencies are still referring them to Tri-counties to get services for their Child(ren) who have developmental disabilities! Does anyone know of any other agencies that provide quality, home-based ABA, not virtual?

Ya.. I looked into that. It was a no for me.. they were based out of CA if I remember. My grandson would walk away from the screen.

Need Advice From Parents With An Autistic Child That Have Went On To Have A Second Child.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone! Looking for some opinions and advice.

My 5 year old has recently been diagnosed with autism. I'm a sensitive person so this journey has been hard and heartbreaking at times. I love my baby so much and my heart wants another child but the fear of having another child with autism scares me so much. its Not the actual diagnosis that scares me because my boys best attributes (honesty, caring, humour, infectious personality) are all apart of his autism it's more that I am scared of… read more

Our daughter was born in 2010 and was diagnosed with ASD/ADHD in 2015. Our son was born in 2011 so we didn't know autism was an issue at the time. He has no signs of ASD. Another factor is age of… read more

Has Anybody Heard Of Cindy Hebbard: Freedom For Autism?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

So, I saw this add for a program for our kids that claims 100% positive results. Apparently, it is tailored to each individual child to take specific steps to improve their behavior, diets, social skills, etc. without the use of ABA. I had a one on one call with the founder last week and she claims to have a daughter on the spectrum that has learned to thrive through her program and her website touts other testimonials of people who have seen social, emotional, and verbal improvements in their… read more

What Ideas Do You Have For Public Schools To Help Children With Autism?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have experienced many different request from parents. Some want more some want less and some don't participate in the school program at all. Some kids have paraprofessionals, OT, PT, sped teacher, and parents are unhappy and want more specialists, and some parents want less services and more inclusion with no para. I have trained all special ed staff in autism and am a certified autism specialist myself. So, because I still see parent concerns I'm seeking ideas from all of you so I can be a… read more

Why We Do Need A Diagnosis?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

After 14 months since our first contact with the Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta, we thought we had reached the stage for a formal diagnosis but we blew it because we were late due to traffic and told to come back in a couple of months. My wife thinks paying $1790 for the diagnosis evaluation alone is a waste would be better spent on more ST or back to OT again. Our lateness was our fault but we both felt insulted that even nearly paying two grand and waiting over year for our daughter wasn't… read more

That's terrible. Try telling them it's an emergency and to please out you on a waiting list in case someone cancels. If they still don't see him sooner, find someone else. Where do you live?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

If it was definitely genetic they would have revealed it by now as they are always saying they “don’t know” the cause. I find that hard to believe. Also, if was something genetic or a DNA abnormality… read more

Has Anyone Recently Enrolled Their Child In ABA Therapy?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Davis is 7 yrs old who was finally diagnosed this month. The hospital said they were going to refer him to a therapist nearby. Just wanted a little more insight or experience on it.

It's important to note that ABA therapy is not the only approach available for supporting individuals with autism. Different individuals may respond to various interventions differently. If you have… read more
