Cat As A Pet?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone here have a cat as a pet? How does your child handle the cat? In my experience cats can quickly turn/strike back when provoked. I dont know how gentle my son would be w a cat, and how the cat would tolerate him if he wanted to pet snuggle and fuss over it, and it wanted to be alone. Just imagining scenarios.
And then the poop de resitance: How do you manage the litter box? And does your child stay away from it or is it literally a 💩 show?

They are amazing!! You won't regret it. Are you in NYC?? My breeder is in Brooklyn. I can give you her information if you need. She allows for an allergy test, as well. Before you purchase the cat, you can go to her home to sit with the cats.she also places cat saliva on your wrist to see if you have a reaction, Before you purchase the cat

I have had a cat for 13 years her name is Psycho and she's the worst...I love her though.. sometimes...sometimes I threaten to turn her into a barn cat lol. Lately I keep trying to faten her up so she'll stop being so nuts but it's not working when she runs back and forth and scales the walls at 3am every night she just burns it all off... sigh

She's terrified of my son, but I don't blame her so am I 😱 lol...she runs away I think he's just too unpredictable for her...her and my daughter don't seem to notice each other, but she always lays on my daughter's stuff so I think there is some kind of affection there. I will say one thing Psycho hisses and strikes at me and my husband all the time but she has never once done any of this to the kids even when she batted at them as babies she never used claws 🤔...I always found that interesting.

Our litter box is in a closet with a baby gate in front...kids never mess with it, they used to mess with the food when they were babies, but hey extra protein 😁.

Oh yes, I do. And it has been really great. I think cats get a bad rep. Even myself. Growing up i had a cat and she was not a nice cat, so I was under the impression that all cats were just like that.. Fast forward to last year and my daughter was begging me to get a cat..After alot of research I found a breed I thought sounded like a really great fit for my family. They are called Siberians.. I got mine from a breeder and He is the sweetest cat ever. My daughter has a cat allergy, but after research I found this breed has the smallest amount of the protein people who are allergic ,react to. He is the most dog like cat I have ever been around . We had a dog, but she was so hyper and all over the place, my son did not bond with her at all. My son likes his space, and didn't appreciate the dog constantly jumping up on him and being in his face. He has actually bonded way more with the cat. Cats are actually great. Some can be very dog like in their personalities, but way less maintenance than a dog. You don't have to walk them, and you can leave them by themselves during the day without fear of them tearing up the house because they miss you. Cats pretty much litter train themselves. They take to litter box very fast. My cat has never had an accident..not once. Do some research on different cat breeds and see what type fits best for you and your family. A true Siberia can be a little costly but they are so worth it. There's other breeds with similar traits as well..oh and they have so many different kinds of litter boxes now. I have a hooded one, and you the litter is hidden. They have self cleaning ones, they have ones that you can hide in furniture..Check it out. There are many different options now. My son never goes next to the litter box. Let me know it goes!
