Okay, so sleep is had in 6-9 hour blocks. He is generally awake for 16 hours from when he awoke. A can of cola adds 1 -1.5 hours to the postponement of sleep. No melatonin or sleep medications. No need to leave the house first thing in the morning
While it isn’t reasonable to want a perfect pattern, I do wish it could be 8-10 hours, he functions really well with more rest, and feels more hyper with less rest
We do have restrictive food issues and isolated tactile sensitivities.

Request from your child’s doctor for a Vitamin D blood test. Your child’s Vitamin D amounts should be (despite whatever your doctor tells you!), around 40 nanagrams per milliliter during the winter months and up to 80-90 in the summer from TONS of time spent outside half naked playing in the pool...(what’s that??!! Your Autistic child DOESN’T live along the equator and spend 8-10 hours in their own private pool stimming while your nannie is watching them so you can spend all day at the spa getting massages and mani/ pedi’s???
(You poor bastard!!)
WELL WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD!
MOST kids with autism live in a normal American town where sun amounts aren’t “optimal” and I would bet that over 95% of our MAT members kids are at or below 25 ng/ml. I’m up here in NH and I tested at 18 and my son was 12! Long story short, your doctor is going to probably lie and say it’s not that bad or they might give you a silly D3 vitamin recommended amount. Let me just say this about amounts and leave it....TONS of Really experienced scientists and specialist doctors will say 1000iu’s a day PER 50 pounds of weight. Also remember to take vitamin K2 along with the D3 (keeps the D from creating any calcium issues). How long should you take it for?
I’m currently taking 50,000iu’s a day (nope that’s not a typo!), and I’ve been taking it for 4 months now... did another blood test....I’m now up to 25 ng/ ml. It takes a long time to get your vitamin D levels up because of SO many different personal physical factors.
BTW, my son went from 3-6 hours of sleep a day to 10-12 in about three weeks. Guess what else vitamin D helps with? Autism symptoms AND COVID-19. Don’t believe me?
Look it up! Google or YouTube, (I prefer YouTube)
I don't really want to give advice on meds. But most people need vit D3, especially in the winter. What I meant to say regarding other Vit. D's was sometime people also need vit. B's checked by MD.
I believe you regarding the vitamin D3 and other Vitamin D's.
My son, when younger, did what we called "The Bed Bounce". Not that he was bouncing on his bed... he was bouncing from his bed, to mine, back to his, to his sister's, back to my bed, back to his.... all through the night.
Not only did he keep himself up, he kept disturbing everyone in the house. At the time, I was strongly against medication. After 4 years, ages 5 to 9, I finally agreed to try them. Surprisingly to me, his doctor, put him on tryptophan which is a "natural" drug that is found in turkeys. It worked incredibly with minimal side effects. Worth asking your Doc about
Thanks guys!! I observe food selectivity and when in a pattern of being up at night, he starts craving fortified milks and superfoods!!
