We have had an ongoing battle over haircuts since Liam was 2. Its a constant struggle. I have been doing his hair since the beginning of the pandemic, and it looks like it lol. I keep thinking if I could just let it grow, we could put it in a ponytail and not have to worry about it (he loves a ponytail for some reason) but his hair is so straight it grows right into his eyes, and for a fellow who struggle with eye contact, he needs to be able to see! When I cut my son's hair I use the electric chips. But I hold the vacuum hose by the clippers so it sucks it up before it lands on my son. It is not an easy task. I have managed with doing the vacuum. If your son doesn't mind the noise of the vacuum then you can try that. My son likes to watch the vacuum suck up the hair. I don't know of any way else to cut his hair. Good luck
Are there any sensory-friendly places that cater to kids with autism near you? That’s where I took my son when he was a toddler. His ABA therapist recommended it.
There is a potentially sensory friendly salon about an hour away. Im thinking of trying it once he is able to be vaccinated.
Sigh, unfortunately no hats.
Will he wear a hat? That works to keep it out of his eyes in that stage in between short and long enough for a ponytail.
