Stimming Increase
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has recently increased his Stimming to the point that he’s almost constantly talking. He’s always Stimmed but not on this scale. Has anyone else experienced a significant increase and have you been able to determine a root cause? Was it dietary, environmental, and/or anxiety?

Hi my little boy stimms lots and I find his stimming increases when he is going through a development stage. I notice he stimms more and his sleeps effected for maybe two weeks then we will notice he has learnt something knew. He did this recently and I couldn't figure out. He started clapping and mimicking twinkle twinkle actions for the first time ever. His little brain was just over stimulated due to a developmental phase x

A couple things. Yes I have had stimming increase. It is typically a sign something is off with their environment. I am bipolar also and there is also a point where some stimming can become psychomotor agitation

Thank you for your response. This makes sense for our situation. We just engaged a reading tutor and that may be impacting his Stimming. I’ll monitor this a little more closely. Btw, he’s making great progress. Thank you.
