How Can I Distract My Son From His Constant Jumping??
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 2.5 year old jumps from the second he wakes up to the second he falls asleep after jumping in his crib. I’ve tried distracting with games/snacks and it works for a few minutes but then it’s right back to the jumping. It makes it very difficult at daycare & on play dates as well as trying to get his newborn brother to sleep as our house is very unsoundproof & the jumping shakes the whole house! Is there anyway to replace his jumping with a less obvious/disruptive behaviour?? Or to stop the… read more

My son does the same thing. He is wearing out my furniture, LOL! My OT suggested that he needs that stimulation. The compression on his joints is soothing to him....not her exact words. Her suggestion… read more

Constantly Dumping Food
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 4.5 year old son is extremely picky when it comes to food. He only eats a handful of things such as Goldfish(only the coloured ones) , chips, Froot Loops. He is constantly wanting to dump the bags out and eat off the floor. He finds creative ways to distract us just to do this. Sometimes he doesn’t even want to eat it, just wants to dump. Anyone else dealt with this or have insight into why? It is extremely frustrating for me, let alone the cost and food waste.

Is Speech Therapy Via Skype At School Effective?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 8 years old with high functioning Autism. He is in 2nd grade this year and has been placed on an IEP for 1 hr. Speech therapy a week in a small group instruction for social skills. He is attending public school. The schools speech therapist apparently lives in another state and is only physically at the school 1 week a month. I have concerns of the speech therapy being effective when my son and 3 others are talking thru skype on a computer. Anyone have any experience with this? I… read more

The ideal situation would be a 1 on 1 SLP in person. Technology is great however I do think this situation is not setting your child up for success. Does your child receive any other therapy outside… read more

Nutritional Supplements
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is basically on a liquid diet now because his food aversions have gotten so bad. There are only a few solid foods he will eat and they are junk food/carbs. He won’t eat any meat, veggies or fruit. We have been giving him Carnation Essentials in almond milk but that has a dairy base, as does things like Boost and Ensure, and we are trying to get him off dairy as we feel it contributes to his gastrointestinal problems (constipation). Does anyone know of any good non-dairy nutritional… read more

Simple Spectrum Supplement is really good if he will drink it. Supposedly it’s flavorless but it’s not. It has kind of an orange taste to it. So it can hide well in orange juice. Which is the one… read more

Supplement To Make Up For Food? What Is A Good Multi-vitamin/alternative For Food?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is a very picky eater and always has been. He is going to be 6 years old this December. I am afraid that this could affect his development and it really does scare me. Especially, now that there are always commercials about "80% of the brain developing in the first 3 years." I did give him a multi vitamin prescribed by his pediatrician but did not start giving it to him until his 1 year check up (Qualitest Multi-Vit with Flouride). I just didn't even think about vitamins before that, I do… read more

Autism And Illness
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Now that we are in the middle of cold and flu season (and also Covid) I wanted to get some tips or advice about giving meds to young autistic children who are non-verbal. It’s a challenge for us to even know what ails my son because he doesn’t communicate well.

Right now, he’s had a bad cold for a week and I took him to the doctor and he also has an ear infection. They prescribed antibiotics in liquid form but I can’t disguise it in chocolate milk because the taste is too strong. The… read more

Does he take a medicine? It was listed as a possible side effect for my son's medicine. It could be out of boredom or anxiety. My son has been chewing on things lately.
