I Am Looking For Help In Ways To Redirect My 3yr Old Son From Hitting?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

He isn't hitting out of anger or from being upset...He hits and slaps and taps you when he is excited or happy. We have tried saying no nice touch sitting him down beside us so many different things but nothing seems to work. Please help any ideas would be great Thank you

Alternative Treatments: Smoke And Mirrors Or Silver Bullet?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Out of pure desperation, my wife is seeking possibilities with alternative treatments. One of mom's in school (we just started LEAP program) recommended and said it did miracles for her. I honestly find it hard to believe, too good to be true and opportunism of the 'doctors', exploiting our desperation and fear. But i'm open to all opinions, please

Thanks in advance,
guto

Anybody who promises a "cure" is overhyping their treatment. But that does NOT mean that it's all just snake oil and you should just stick to pharmaceuticals and ABA. Pharmaceuticals have their… read more

Suggestions For Tracker / Locater
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We are taking our 10 year old daughter with classic autism to Disney World in january, which spurred us to start looking at trackers. I think we have decided it would be a good investment, regardless of the trip, to get her a tracker. Does anyone have experience with them? It is kind of overwhelming trying to choose the right one. I appreciate any suggestions or anecdotes. Thanks!

I just found this deal online. I think for the price it would be worth a try. I love that I can call the watch and talk to him if I need to. https://www.opensky.com/bluelans/product/anti-l...

Any Natural Alternatives To Amoxicillin For Tooth Infections?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 7yr old daughter has pain due to a dental infection.
Her Dentist is prescribing Amoxicillin to help with the infection and Motrin or advil for the pain.

Is there any liquid natural alternative antibiotics recommended?

When ever possible I like to go the more natural holistic approach .

Thanks

If your child has an infection then an antibiotic medication to kill the bacteria is needed. Using natural/herbal/homeopathic remedies that make claims but have no scientific evidence will put your… read more

Aba
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

How do u know if your child needs ABA?

A MyAutismTeam Member

It’s usually the recommendation of the Dr who diagnosed. If it’s something you’re considering then you’d have an evaluation done just like with other services like speech and OT

My 6 Year Old Woke Up Crying Uncontrollably And Nothing Calmed Her Down. Anyone Experiencing This?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

She tends to do okay once she’s asleep. Sometimes she wakes up in the middle of the night but she’s alert. She woke up today at 5am after sleeping since 9:30 last night. She was crying and throwing herself on her bed. It was like when she had a meltdown. I don’t believe she was in pain. She kept giving me the tv remote but she wasn’t happy with anything I put on the tv. Water always calms her down so we got her in the shower and after 20 minutes of playing with bubbles she calmed down and got… read more

Our 4 year old seems to be allergic to sleep. There have been days where he wakes up around 6:30am and is active straight through to bedtime, but is clearly still wide awake when we try to get him… read more

Alternative Medications To Risperidone
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter has been on risperidone for many years and had good luck with it controlling moods and behavioral outbursts. Unfortunately her prolactin levels have gone extremely high and now she also has high cholesterol despite a fairly good diet and normal BMI. Her doctor wants to take her off the risperidone and try something else. Any suggestions on alternatives other than abilify(she had an adverse reaction to abilify a few years ago)?

A MyAutismTeam Member

Be very careful---my son had a terrible reaction to Prozac a few years ago and recently had trouble with Abilify and had to stop it after taking it for a few short weeks. Tenex and Clonidine have… read more

Have Any Of You Hospitalized Your Child For A Med Wash?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 12-year-old is dangerously aggressive and the meds that worked for years no longer work now that he's hit puberty. Our team is talking about admitting him to an in-patient program for 30 days to safely work him off of the medications he is taking and then add in new medications that might work better for him. Have any of you ever hospitalized your child for a med wash? What was your experience? Would you recommend it? I'm worried that the hospital experience will traumatize him, but I'm also… read more

I know this may sound like a dumb question but when the med wash happens at the hospital/ or treatment center, would / is the parent allowed to stay with their child ? This has been brought up to us… read more
