Swallowing Medicine And Spitting Out Toothpaste
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am a child care provider for a wonderfully sweet 4 year old autistic boy. His mom has come to me asking how she can get her son to swallow medicine (he will hold it in his mouth for over 45 minutes without ever swallowing) and today we are trying to get him to spit out his toothpaste (not something we want to have him swallow)

Any ideas we can try here at the center or that I can pass along to help out his mom?

What Are Some Candies/toothpastes That Help Reduce Spitting/saliva Production?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Wondering what candies, toothpaste, gum...help a child who spits a lot. My son is experiencing "juicy mouth" so I am looking for a candy/toothpaste to tackle too much saliva. Any suggestions?

Does anyone have difficulty with tooth brushing? My kid doesn't like it in general but HATES toothpaste. Any toothpastes you can recommend?

Does Anyone Have Tips On Getting Your Little One To Brush Their Teeth?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 3. He is completely nonverbal. He had a bottle for way too long as it was one of the only things that used to calm him down. Even though we started when he was quite young he has never gotten used to us trying to brush his teeth. It’s basically him screaming and fighting us the whole time. He is starting to have some teeth that am worried about. I also want to have his teeth cleaned but I can’t even imagine what a trip to the dentist with him will be like. Any suggestions or similar… read more

Any Parent Suggestions On Teeth Brushing. My Son Hates The Sensory Issue And Now Has 21 Cavities At 16 Yrs Old. Thoughts?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My Son at 16 is taller then I so I can't hold him down and brush. We put photos of decaying teeth on the mirror, tried spin brushes, the dentist lectured him, but we fear after we fix his teeth, if it keeps up he will begin losing them. 21 cavities will cost us $2000 after insurance...like we need another bill with all the doctors, meds and therapy.

Have you tried to "fun" rinses that are blue or pink? Maybe they can help.

Can Anyone Offer Tips For Tooth Brushing?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Michael is 3 and it's a battle to get his teeth brushed. I'm sure I'm not doing a good enough job. He forces the brush out repeatedly and clamps his teeth down on it other times. It got better with an electric toothbrush, but still not great or easy. His Dr. recently recommended going back to a finger toothbrush. I got chewed on so badly I felt like I'd been attacked. Needless to say, I'm not going back in there like that again! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

electric toothbrush that plays music/ did Justin bieber for a grandchild// sugarfree gum can help get junk out of the back teeth, where they're less apt to put toothbrush

How Do I Get My Nonverbal Child To Spit When Brushing His Teeth?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Our pediatrician told us to keep using the non fluoride toothpaste until he spits. He sucks the toothpaste off and eats it. He will brush but will not spit. Also his breath is horrible. I don’t know what to do.
