Thank you very much
My 27 yr. old son (whom we believe to have Asperger's) has not been able to ace a job interview in over 2 yrs. He is very polite and intelligent, and has been on many job skills courses but somehow, something just doesn't connect or go over well with the interviewer and he is rejected. Perhaps they are picking up on and focusing more on his slightly unusual voice inflections and/or body language than on his ability to perform the job well.
{I should add, that although highly intelligent in many… read more

How do u know if your child needs ABA?
It’s usually the recommendation of the Dr who diagnosed. If it’s something you’re considering then you’d have an evaluation done just like with other services like speech and OT
I am very sad today because I found that our insurance (united healthcare) doesn't cover the ABA therapy and it seems san diego regional center has the income limit for helping with that. I think it will be too expensive for us and I am not sure what we can do for our 3.5 year old son.any suggestion?
In our plan it is explained that
Mental health services for autism are not covered under the plan. Medical services for autism are covered if otherwise covered by the plan.
I meant that some hospitals that have Speech, OT etc. also have behavioral therapy and offer a deal to people that do not have the coverage. That was our experience in Chicago. A back up idea. I am… read more

I agree! Again, I'm not a doctor. I don't know how old your son is and/or why the bipolar diagnosis. My son has hallucinations/hears voices...he also has anger issues when he is having high… read more

How do I get a diagnoses for my daughter?
My 3.5 (41 month old) daughter was born at 26 weeks, and has been in either PT or Speech therapy her entire life. She has also occasionally used OT as well. I have taken her to UVA and they have not diagnosed her yet.
She behaves differently for every visit, and twice I've been told that they are going to monitor for attention. She is a very busy child.
She is very social and extremely bright, and will say "Hi. How are you today?" and many other… read more
You might want to google echolalia for her conversations using lines from movies etc. If she plays next to another peer, that would be parellel play which is a characteristic of autism. My son has… read more

Thank you so much, sorry for the late response.
19 year old thought he was going to college but his dad had not followed through and he finds himself back in high school trying to get his GED, since his "special diploma" was for cleaning hospital cafeteria tables. He is somewhat angry (go figure) and living with me (mom) now. Keep getting emails from school that he gets angry and pushes other students or curses at the teachers and other students because they did something to anger him.
He is very out of touch with his emotions and when I… read more
most GP don't know much about autism. Most towns have mental health clinics that provide service either free or based on a sliding scale. Have you checked with his school? My son was actually… read more
So, I saw this add for a program for our kids that claims 100% positive results. Apparently, it is tailored to each individual child to take specific steps to improve their behavior, diets, social skills, etc. without the use of ABA. I had a one on one call with the founder last week and she claims to have a daughter on the spectrum that has learned to thrive through her program and her website touts other testimonials of people who have seen social, emotional, and verbal improvements in their… read more
