Does anyone have experience with getting a diagnosis for an older child? My step daughter is 10 and still hasn't had testing. We are finally on a waitlist for neuropsych. Any advice on what we cando while we wait?

A MyAutismTeam Member

How Do You Deal With A Thirteen Yr. Old Aspie Who Is High Functioning And Lies In All Seriousness?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My grandson, a 13 yr. old aspie, lies continuously. In all seriousness he says he knows nothing about it, he did not do it. He is also epileptic - has grand mals and has had petit mals since a toddler. I wonder: 1) does he know he is lying? 2) does he not remember having done/not done whatever? 3) does he not recognize that he is lying and see the lies as justified protection?

Has anyone else dealt with this? If so, how did you approach it?

I feel your pain, have the same issue with my 18yr old. He claims to thrive on honesty, but often lies and denies things that were definitely said or done. About a year ago he even started denying his… read more

Do Any Others On The Spectrum Notice Frequent Nose Bleeds?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Jazzy has always suffered from spontaneous nose bleeds. we have done a million things to try and minimize them but no matter what she has 2-3 nose bleeds every week. Usually they are pretty short, but sometimes it seems like they last ALL day! Wondered if it is a trend?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Son is 20, 6 ft 2 inches, limited language skills with significant sensory needs. Not at all aggressive, but can get anxious . He is very strong physically and strong willed.

Nose bleed cycle happens every year when he gets a cold. Nose bleeds sometimes happen when he hasn’t even picked it and they can go on for up to 20 minutes. Doesn’t help as he is constantly on the move and can’t sit still for long. Doctor just tells me to do what I am already doing ie pinch nose for 10 mins , apply cold… read more

Risperdone And Body Heat
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Since the pandemic, one of the twin girls with autism would become extremely hot after taking her medication risperdone. I thought this was odd so I started watching her each and every time. She would get hot all over her body like she was having a fever. I did search online and have discovered that this is a common symptom of this medication. Has anyone else ever had this issue?

How Do You Get A Child To Stop Nose Picking?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

He picks his nose until it bleeds. My son just turned 6 and he has always picked his nose. It has now gotten to the point where blood comes out of his nose and mouth. I'm not sure of what to do.

A MyAutismTeam Member

Try to keep his nose moist . My pediatrician told me to put a little Vaseline with a
Q tip in the nose and it helps.
