My daughter was recently diagnoses with autism so I am still learning about her diagnosis and some of the things that I can expect to experience. One of my biggest challenges helping her when she is experiencing a meltdown. I have tried holding her, or singing to her none of these really help to console her she pretty much has to tire out. The other day she was having a meltdown in the car and I tried offering her my hand to see if just having some physical contact with me would help and that… read more

HELLO, I HOPE EVERYONE IS DOING WELL. My son is 8, mostly non-verbal, hates doctors and fights them off, they know he's Autistic at the lab, he's supposed to get his blood drawn every three-6 months to test liver and kidney levels since he takes Depakote, but they are never able to get blood from him, even with Ativan given to him an hour before, he won't even let them put a blood pressure cuff on him! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

My 7-year-old autistic son is high-functioning and goes to grade 1 in a regular school and regular class. He has some challenges with paying attention, sitting, and following some rules but he is doing well academically. His teacher has told us we should consider sending him to special classes in other schools. We feel that the teacher's advice is mostly for her comfort rather than the benefit of our child. Any advice on what should be our strategy toward this problem?
