Another wrinkle is when the person on the spectrum doesn't accept their diagnosis. When they are adults, and request that family not be told the details, it tends to put some distance and tension in… read more

Should I Tell The Coach?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has been playing soccer since he was 3yo (now 13yo). Soccer is his one and only interest and he has managed to make it to a high level of play. With that being said, every single coach labels him as being cocky/undisciplined/arrogant despite his level of play. He doesn't treat anybody bad but tends to give more feedback than necessary. The thing is, being on the spectrum, he struggles with that portion of the game. I'm heartbroken because his current coach constantly bullies him and calls… read more

I would also notify the district if the coach continues to bully and single him out. or notify the association the coach is through. That is discrimination and not okay. That is not a way to teach or… read more

Just let it run it's course and try to "ignore" it, making sure he can't hurt himself by matter-of-factly removing objects that could cause him harm.

[STATEMENT] Bullying, Bullies, Bully...or...'Being Picked On'?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Bullying, Bullies, Bully. All 'Stigmas', 'Labels' that do not get to the 'Root' of the issue. There was a time when there was such a thing as being 'Picked On' by someone that was seeking a 'Friendship' that had any-other way of expressing it
Our ASD Individuals Starve for 'Attention' and either become the 'Victim' or the 'Bully' to get it
I have seen an Increase in this issue, and it always comes at the end of the Winter Season.
I believe that it's time to take each child individually for a… read more

Has Anybody Heard Of Cindy Hebbard: Freedom For Autism?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

So, I saw this add for a program for our kids that claims 100% positive results. Apparently, it is tailored to each individual child to take specific steps to improve their behavior, diets, social skills, etc. without the use of ABA. I had a one on one call with the founder last week and she claims to have a daughter on the spectrum that has learned to thrive through her program and her website touts other testimonials of people who have seen social, emotional, and verbal improvements in their… read more

How Do You Know It’s Right?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter is level one. She is in mainstream school and has reached all her goals. We’re working on her skills for 2nd grade now. I’m working with her on staying seated and doing her work, and we’re still working on doing her daily morning routine. She has Encopresis and has accidents overnight. She will get up and play instead of going to the bathroom in the morning. She hasn’t had daytime accidents since summer break began, and she goes to the bathroom on her own during the day. We went… read more

My daughter was 2 years old before she started forming words, about three when she finally started forming sentences. We learned some sign language and that helped a lot.
