San Diego Schools
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is on the spectrum and is about to start kindergarten next year. He's zoned to Jones Elementary and I'm finding it difficult to decipher how well this school will support his needs.

It's important to his mother and I that he's placed in an integrated classroom since he's high functioning.

We have until next week to choose our preferred school to send him to in the SAN Diego unified school district. Does anyone have any recommendations for great school that are relatively close or can… read more

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a 10 year old son with mild/mod autism. We live in the San Diego area and I am having the hardest time finding a 5th grade program/school for him! I go back and fourth with NPS or not. I really just want a mild mod room with gen ed time and for him to learn the things he can, in the ways he can do so. I don't understand why San Diego has NOTHING to offer :/

GFCF Supplement In Drink Form?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hey All! I am looking for ideas for a gluten free, dairy free drink for my 3yo son with ASD. I googled it and found OneSource- it is lactose free but made from milk. He is not lactose intolerant.. it is a full-on dairy allergy. No whey or casein so that isn't going to work. I know there has to be SOMETHING out there along the lines of Boost or Ensure.. with his autism he is VERY particular about what he will eat. I have him on a multivitamin but I feel like I need to do more. Any suggestions?

Any One Have Any Luck With Dairy-free Cheese Substitutes?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has multiple food allergies, and I fear he has developed one to dairy as well :(. He also is on a gluten-free diet which has helped him stay better in control of frustration and anger. Anyway I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for dairy-free cheeses? Really trying to find an okay replacement for mac and cheese (it has to be dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free, and the tough one when it comes to prepared DF/GF mac and cheese is sunflower oil free.) Any ideas?

He eats a lot of foods, and I already limit the mac and cheese….he used to eat the soy nut butter, but refuses now not sure why, but he won't touch the stuff. :(

Most GF Stuff We've Tried Is Horrible. How Do We Change To A GF Diet To Even Try It?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've taken a run at going GF and we end up throwing the stuff out. The taste and texture turns us off big time
My son whom needs it the most won't eat it and we hate the food and recipes we've tried. I'm a great cook and have cooked all my life, but can't find things that are satisfying or taste good. I don't get it when people say,"Oh just try harder. Try it for 6 weeks and see if it works." We've never even lasted a week as the stuff is so gross to us. How do you make the change and… read more

Did You See Any Changes In Your Child After Going Dairy-free And/or Gluten-free?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone changed their child's diet (dairy-free, gluten-free)? What changes did you see?

We are in the beginning process of eliminating my 2 year old daughter's diet of dairy, and just got her off of milk and onto almond milk. She normally has yogurt once a day with her supplements mixed in (DHA and probiotic) but I will change that to applesauce when I get to the store next. Our next step is to go gluten-free, but I know that will be especially challenging because she only eats "white"… read more

He was about three and he did begin talking a couple of months after. He was also getting two hours of speech a week. It did seem that he was in a fog until we changed his diet.

Deodorant For Teen
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have a good deodorant that their child uses? My daughter is 13, I’m trying to find one that won’t leave the yellow stains on shirts. Thank you

A MyAutismTeam Member

I recommend Megababe Daily Deodorant. It doesn't leave any residue and it's aluminum free.
