Has Anyone Tried The Ketogentic Diet For Their Child With ASD?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello, I wanted to see if anyone has tried the low carb low sugar diet (Ketogentic) diet for their child with ASD? My son is 11-years old on the heavy side of the scale. He doesn't drink soda, juice or eats sweets. It's mostly rice, pasta and snacks. I had stumbled upon this book at our local Costco called "The 30-Day Ketogenic Cleanse: Reset Your Metabolism with 160 Tasty Whole-Food Recipes & Meal Plans" by Marie Emmerich.

I am trying the diet myself first to see and so far so good for… read more

What Happens To AS Kids After They Grow Up? I Mean, What's Next For Them - And How Do They Adjust Into Being Part Of Adult Society?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Mike can't seems to hold a job due to his AS, someone will inturrupt his routine, or say the wrong thing, or place too much pressure on him and he just looses it, either in anger from fustration, or he starts shutting down inside himself, and when he's in a lowered communication level, inputs and outputs are not there, he doesn't seem to hear, and can't seem to speak, like reach outside himself. how does one deal with these types of things, he had no help growing up, raised by a too practical… read more

Food Triggers
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 16 yo is HFA and is on Zoloft mainly for anxiety. When it comes to eating, he does like meats and salads. But he is funny about textures and smells and this seems to affect his diet. Before starting Zoloft he seemed to have a better appetite. Can anyone explain why? Also, besides dyes, what other foods can trigger negative behavior and what is in them that’s causing it?

My child lost her appetite on Zoloft. She recently moved in with her dad. They are telling me she has to see a psychiatrist to get Zoloft, even tho the dr the have for her already prescribed it. Is… read more

Sleep Aids For 2 Year Old Epileptic.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have a toddler who has been prescribed sleep aides? My daughters pedi told us to bring it up to her neuro, but I would like to have some sort of medication list with me when we go to her appointment. She is turning 3 I'm November, and doesn't sleep. She has a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep. She's on meds ( Topamax sprinkles ) that are supposed to help, but don't. She is also taking Keppra, that doesn't help either. Her previous neurologist didn't realy care to pay… read more

We've done the aromatherapy with deep tissue massage like both her neuro and therapist suggested to no avail. White noise used to work as a baby, but now it's almost like it causes her pain. The… read more

How Do You Handle Aggressive Behavior From Your Teens/ Young Adults ?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

How have you handled the transition from trying to be helpful to your child to having your teenager standing over you bellowing at you & cussing you out ? My Aspergers son is almost 17 years old & gets extremely agitated & aggressive, at that point he starts yelling at me & my husband to STOP at the top of his lungs. That is followed by GO AWAY !!, LEAVE ME ALONE !! and of course, the name calling & cussing ~ all at the top of his voice.

When he was younger, it was easier to help him… read more

Cannabis Oil And Epilepsy
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone used cannabis oil to help with epilepsy? My daughters neurologist had mentioned the possibility of trying it to see if it helps her since the meds haven't helped her at all.

It has worked wonders for some of my friends children. May be worth trying, if traditional treatment aren't helping

My 2 Yr Old Has Been Pinching, Scratching And Biting. He Does It For Sensory Input (I Think) As He Is Not Angry Or Upset When He Does It.

Does Your Child Struggle With Anger Issues?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

When I was around eight years old, I began to have anger issues. I had outbursts, would call people names, and would even hit others. It came to a head when I slapped my grandmother in front of my family. My mother took me to a therapist and after three or so months I was much better. She didn't conclude I was Autistic for some reason, but that's a whole other story.

Is Thomas The Tank Engine A Neurological Trigger?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

No, this isn’t a joke. My son is 4 years old and was diagnosed with ASD about a year ago. He’s not very verbal although he says words, but not too clearly, and sometimes short phrases. He does verbal stimming where he babbles and laughs to himself and makes other noises. As a very young child, before he showed any signs of autism, he was a very neurotypical child up until about 20 months old. He has what the doctor said is regression because he talked, made eye contact, related to others, and… read more

Nutritional Supplements
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is basically on a liquid diet now because his food aversions have gotten so bad. There are only a few solid foods he will eat and they are junk food/carbs. He won’t eat any meat, veggies or fruit. We have been giving him Carnation Essentials in almond milk but that has a dairy base, as does things like Boost and Ensure, and we are trying to get him off dairy as we feel it contributes to his gastrointestinal problems (constipation). Does anyone know of any good non-dairy nutritional… read more
