A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

how double standard is the fact that a.b.a providers cant be seen in public doing there therapy , why not its considered child abuse? wth is wrong here?

A MyAutismTeam Member

That does sound like it is specific to your provider. We also have community outings. Our ABA therapist spends as much time out of the office for visits than in the office.

Does Anyone Else Have An Issue With Their Child Wandering?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We have recently started to have an issue with our 3 year old wandering. Our house is locked down like an army camp (indoor and outdoor cameras, locks, alarms, etc. He seems to be drawn to water and other very dangerous situations. We moved about one month ago to our new home and last week he escaped around 7pm (after placing his shoes by the door which I believe was strategic), and made it about a block away. He will be 4 in April.

We had to secure windows in the upstairs of our home out of… read more

Do Anyone's Kid Spontaneously Get Upset And You Haven't A Clue What Happened?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has done this for a long time. He's happy, in a good mood, smiling and then all of a sudden he throws himself back and starts screaming and gets upset. I'm so confused to wether he's hurting or just angry about something that I can't tell or understand. My husband says the same thing about it too. I'm just wondering if any other parents witness this with their children. Usually when this is happening I'll ask my son do you have ouchie? What's wrong? When I say anything to him at the… read more

Playgroups In Kansas City Area
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 2 year old son has not been officially dx but based on our Early Intervention SLP and OT feedback we are sure he will be. He is an only child and has zero interaction with other children. Does anyone know of playgroups in the Kansas City area for children with ASD?

A MyAutismTeam Member

Playgroups is the important clue here. You really want just one or two "normal" children to play with. Large groups can be intimidating. Large groups with ASD may not really help. I believe the… read more

Anyone Have Advise On How To Introduce My Boyfriend To My HFA/OCD 11 Y/o Son?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a gentleman friend who I've been dating for a while. I have not introduced him to my children because I wanted to make sure he has the potential to stick in this relationship for the long haul.My oldest has moved out, so it's a matter of the younger boys. My NT 9 y/o is all for it, but I am having a hard time figuring out what would be the least stressful way to introduce him to my DS. He is still stuck on me getting back together with his father, even though we have been apart for 3… read more
