Help my ex wont give my son his meds on the weekends or vacation time he has him. so my son goes days without it and comes home more upset and violent with his sisters and me. I have try to talk to his father about making sure that he gets it but got told that he can give it to himself which the doctor says no because of where he is on the spectrum. I have tired talking to DFCS where I live and got told they cant do anything because I have the child most of the time. What else can I do because… read more
It is a form of negligence called medical negligence, I believe, for a parent to not give meds. I’m shocked that DCFS won’t do anything! CPS? My ex is the same but my child is only on meds when she is… read more
Children's Hospital in Fairfax. Dr. Pratt is awesome. She is a behavioral pediatrician who works with my son.
I know each year we have a review but he's never been retested and he will need to have this done for college. I looked on Wrights Law and couldn't seem to find the answer to this. I must be missing something. Thanks for any help you can give.
YES!!! If needs have changed, or IF YOU REQUEST IT.
We are at a loss about things to try that will work on my daughters behavior. The behavior is getting worse, and Her therapist and I are out of ideas and things that work. If you know of resources please let me know.
I just recently tried out a behavior chart, and it has improved quiet a bit in the last two weeks. It gives her a visual of each behavior and what I expect(use a bright color poster board). For each… read more
My HFA daughter is currently attending a regular 2's preschool program, with a B23 therapist who shadows her, 2 days a week. So far it's been great. She loves school, needs minimal behavior support aside from helping her with social interactions ( she is still a bit awkward there but interested in the other kids.) In January she ages out of B23 and qualifies for our town's special Ed preschool program. I live in a small city basically and have heard mixed reviews, mostly negative of the program… read more
I am really impressed that you did that kind of in-depth research to find the proper classroom situation for your daughter! It's so encouraging that she is showing interest in her peers and can mimic… read more
My son has a new obsession and it is words. He used the word dynamic for everything, but now he has a new word and that word is pedophile. After asking him a hundred questions about why he is using this word, and making sure nothing happened to him, I am stuck. He heard the word on youtube, and is obsessed with it. I have tried to explain what the word means and asked him not to use it anymore unless someone has touched him inappropriately, but he is still saying it. How can I make him… read more
@A MyAutismTeam Member, yeah my mom laughs about it now but she didn't then. She actually left the full shopping cart and walked out of the store!
My step son is 9 years old and has Aspergers. He is in a mainstream class with an IEP. While my husband and I are constantly focusing now on ways to help him better engage socially, make and keep friends, better handle relationships with us and his siblings, one big question we have is about his future and his ability to find love/get married. Does anyone have any thought on this or experience with their older children with Aspergers (or themselves)? The literature on this is fairly pessamistic… read more
Thank you all for such great advise and sharing your experiences.
I can't put him in public school bc he was pushed out 4 yrs ago bc they could no longer handle him. The past 4 yrs he's been in a private school which I love that they treat him like family instead of a burden like he public school did. Problem is this small school is not equipped to teach him (he's the only autistic child in the school). I live in Palm Bay, FL and can't find anything, I've been looking for almost a year now. Please help!!!
@A MyAutismTeam Member is she on a Medicaid waiver ? If so, your support administrator should find another program for her
He only drinks water, no milk ,no juice. Likes soda, but we limit it. He will eat cheese bread, bacon, and sometimes pancakes. He touches a blueberry to his upper lip then puts it down.I have tried all vegs and fruits I know of and he even knows the name of them but will not eat them.
Tried that too with the smoothies. My son has VERY SENSITIVE taste buds. That is why all of his foods have to be fixed exactly the same every time or he won't eat it. I have had to throw away a lot… read more
I totally believe that exercise releases the feel good hormones and I have seen my son become calmer after a brisk walk around the block or after a swim. Looking to try some different exercise or relaxation activities with my son each week so we can keep challenging him during the colder season as we have packed his splash pool away. There are no ideas too small, too big or too wacky for us to consider.
My son is always moving. His activities includes biking, walking, skateboarding the trail around the pond by our house, trampoline, basketball, parks, going out in the yard and turning flips, video… read more
