Anyone have any info on any mothers groups in modesto or close by for support with special needs kids?
Try your local Regional Center or your autism chapter. If none, you may want to start one at your child school. I did that at my child school in the past, or you can start one at your home, if u can… read more
I have my first IEP meeting coming up and would like to know what to expect and any tips would be helpful?

Hello I am looking for something fun for my 5 yr old twin girls to do around modesto area. Or surrounding cities.. Maybe after school or on Saturday mornings. One is autistic and the other one has some learning delays and is extremely shy. So all the help would help me. Thanks again Alexis
My son is in a special class with Modesto City Schools. I'm very happy with his placement. Recently we moved. We actually live closer to his school, but we are now in Stan Union School district. I'm not sure whether to tell the school that we moved. All the other school districts in this area go through the county for autism services and I don't know anything about them. I don't want him to end up at a school 20 or 30 minutes away when his current school is less than 5 minutes away. I've… read more
Hi All! I'm not sure if this an acceptable question for this group but here it goes...I am in search of a lawyer that specializes in special needs trusts in the San Diego CA area. It would be a bonus if they can assist with navigating SSI payment management as well. Bonus #2 would be family estate planning. Bonus #3: I have modest income and would need to find one with a pay rate on the lower end :( Thanks in advance if you provide any recommendations. Terry
All great topics. Praying you get answers.
A lot of parents that can't work because they have to stay home to care for their special needs child 24/7. My son has been receiving IHSS since he was 4 and it helps so much. I am an advocate and I help parents in the merced to modesto area apply get through the in home assessment and go to state hearings. Its worth the fight.
Hello we live in the Bay Area my niece was approved but only for a small amount of hours what’s the best way to appeal! Thank you for all the info and being able to see we are not alone!
Considering Time4Learning and/or My Father's World. Money is an important consideration, since we are on a single (and modest) income. We will begin in the fall and this will be our first year homeschooling.

Has anyone read this book or done the workshop? Any thoughts. We are strongly considering RDI as well, but we may be able to do Talkability workshop for modest cost. I've read other Hanen books (more than words), but this one seems to be more for verbal kids, which is what we have. We want to focus on theory of mind which is very hard to teach.
I just finished the Hanen Centre's "Communication Beyond Words" course, & I have learned so much! It has made a world of difference in my son, who was non-verbal when I started the class, & now, 12… read more
My son will be turning 5 years old this December. He was just recently diagnosed with mild to moderate autism and a language disorder.Right now, he is going to a regular Head Start.Last week, I had an IEP meeting for my son.I brought up that I wanted him in occupational therapy for motor skills(recommended by the psychologist who assessed him)and in ABA therapy. They said that if I wanted the ABA therapy, then he needs to go to a autism class.I get to go and observe 1 autism class on Oct. 24th… read more
