Hello. My autistic son turned 7 and I know he’s supposed to start school. The schools in our area do not have enough support/resource for him. He was referred to a private school for autism but he is on the waiting list and 4th in that list. They said realistically it may take 4 years to make it to the top of the list. Our family is being transferred for work. Our son is 7 and primarily non verbal. He is on the spectrum. The schools I have tried to contact give little to no information until you live in district. I am having a hard time even finding where programs are.

I'm looking for the best southern state with the best resources. We're trying not to move back to Ohio, but we're not receiving much help where we're at.

Do you have any suggestions for a good southside of Chicago public school for students with autism. My grand sons are 5 years old and will be starting kindgergarten this year. I just wanted them to get into a school in which they will be able to receive the therapies that they need as well as a good education.

How did you get him/her into school, private or public, and how is it going? I understand that there are no actual autism schools as there are in Florida, but I am trying to figure out how public school is system works in North Carolina. Separate classes, different teachers, etc.

My 5 year old grandson will be starting school soon, although we have not enrolled him anywhere as of yet
My concern is, in our area there are no special schools for children with autism, yes the elementary school says they can "handle" his needs I have reservations
He is not potty trained yet, he still needs help with eating and he is 99% non verbal. I don't feel comfortable sending him to a public school.

child is in public school. at first this sounded great. he would be integrated. mixed with "special needs" kids and "regular" kids; however it seemed he was NOT getting what he needed as an autistic child. so, I went to view a Private School, and the school works with ONLY special needs kids (all mixed/in diagnosis) but suddenly I felt completely overcome with GRIEF.
