What Type Of Doctor Is The Best For An Official Diagnosis Of Aspergers?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been told so see a pediatric neuropsychiatrist, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, etc. I am thinking of trying to get SSI for my son, but he does not carry the "official" diagnosis of Aspergers. I don't even know where to start looking for these types of doctors and doubt there are any in my immediate area, anyway. I am close to Los Angeles, though.

Pediatrician With Autism Experience & Potential Private School In Charleston, SC
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 4 year old daughter was recently diagnosed. We'd like to switch pediatricians to someone who is familiar with children on the spectrum. We're currently a part of one of the large pediatrician groups in the area and see someone different every time.

We're also looking for a great private school for our daughter to attend kindergarten in the 2024-2025 year. Any suggestions?

Has Anyone Had A Problem With A Provider "not Believing" In Autism Or Parts Of The Spectrum?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Because we have recently moved, and the doctor who diagnosed my youngest with mild ASD didn't give us any paperwork on it, we're having to go through the diagnostic procedure all over again. Emma finally had her evaluation today, and it was a GOOD day, so she was actually relatively calm about things, and interactive. I told the evaluator about it, but after she saw Emma for a few minutes she came out of the room and told me she's absolutely not autistic because she is able to speak. She also… read more

All the time. It's a major problem, especially with females, and worsens with age. I strongly recommend asking to have records transferred from the "good" doctor to the new one.

Does Educational Diagnosis Of Autism Qualify As Diagnosis Outside Of School?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son has had full evaluations by teams of therapists and school psychologists that started with developmental delay and more recently changed to Autism. We are blessed that he receives amazing therapy and supports in school, but does an educational diagnosis of Autism qualify to be able to use health insurance for any outside therapies we may want him to do? and how about benefits once he ages out of the school system? Is a private diagnosis required? We plan on getting that done in the… read more

Developemtal Pediatrician
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter is 2.5. She got diagnosed with autism at 19 months by a neurologist. We are currently doing ABA, OT, ST, PT, biomedical treatments, gluten/casein free diet and attend music and a mommy class. I'm wondering if I should take her to a developmental pediatrician. Our DAN doctor told us she has moderate autism and agree, but would like to see what the developmental pediatrician would say. I don't know if she does other assessment that would give me more information about my child.

I would slow down - wait to add a service when one is done. dont want to overload your kid or you. You are doing a great job helping your child - your well informed and pro-active. Well done!!!!!

Developmental Pediatrician VS Neuropsychologist?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My child was diagnosed with ASD by a developmental/behavioral pediatrician, who we continue to check in with throughout the year. And have been for nearly two years now. I’ve heard some MAT friends mentioning their neuropsych as the one who diagnosed and/or works w their family. Is there a distinct difference in why you’d choose one specialist VS another? Is it age related, do these specialists work in tandem, etc.? Any perspective, very interested to know!
