Any Good Resources For Folks With Chromosome 16p11.2 Duplication Or Parents With Children With This Genetic Variation?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I just found out that my 19 month old has this variation (through a chromosome microarray). There seems to be more information related to 16p11.2 deletion over the duplication. Anyone else's child have this? Can I hear from your experiences? We are slated to see a geneticist in September. Thanks in advance!

Can Any Refer An Eye Doctor In The Houston Area (optometrist Or Opthomalogist), Other Than U Of H
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi,

I'm looking for an eye doctor in the Houston area to give me a second opinion on his prescription. Currently we go to U of H to have his eyes checked, and they do a great job, but I'd like to make sure it's the correct prescription since my son is not able to tell me. I'm willing to travel to Austin or San Antonio as well. I'm having a hard time finding an eye doctor willing to see an autistic child.

Thanks for your help!!

You are doing a super job by seeking a second opinion. My twins cannot talk, they use some sign language, and getting second opinions is always an excellent option for any service or treatment that… read more

SSI Applied For 8 Year Old. Not Denied Yet, But My Daughter Was Asked To Take Her Son To Three Different Evaluations. Is It Worth It?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I posted a question a couple months ago about SSI and my 8yr old grandson. My daughter applied August 13th. The intake person told her she felt they would not request additional evaluations because she had so much documentation. Yesterday she got a large packet. SS had made three different appointments for her son. Speech, Psych and some other kind of testing.I am wondering if it is worth putting him through all this. He is high functioning, attends a full inclusion program with an instructional… read more

Resources Of Getting Private SP, OT, And ABA When Low-income. Help!
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Alexa just turned 3, we just got ASD, GDD, and Expressive Language Disorder DX. ABA, private speech and OT were recommended for her from her team. We have been utilizing services through EI, but due to budget constraints what we receive is very limited (2 hrs. a month). My husband is a full-time student and I am a SAHM to our 2 little ones. We do have Medicaid and just applied for SSDIC. We are in Portland Oregon if that helps. Any suggestions or ideas of where we might start? I feel like we are… read more

My 7y/o Has Just Been Diagnosed With PDD, It Was Suggested We Apply For SSDI. How Do We Go About That?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Our son has in school services. But it was recommended that he has in home services. We know that there is cost to the in home services & insurance usually does not cover. Would SSDI be the right avenue to go & do we need an attorney to get that? We are still in the process of getting him into counseling through the county mental health department. But we really do not know how to proceed with this. Thanks for any suggestions.

How Do I Start Building Family And Friends Support Network?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello everyone
We are at the very beginning of our journey... Since testing takes time, I wanted to be proactive and do as much as I can on my own and with help of our family and friends. How do I introduce them to the issue? How do I ask for appropriate help and support? What is the right thing to say and what is not? Is it ok to ask for monetary help (costs of therapy, dietary supplements, therapeutic accessories, etc) if yes, how to do so in a delicate manner
Thank you for all of your… read more
