A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

The other day I was out and let her out of her stroller to play with toys at the store and when I told her it was time to leave she had the biggest tantrum I have ever seen. She was crying falling to the floor kicking screaming turning bright red and started scratching her self. I didn't know how to calm her and at that point there was know way as she was not listening. I had to pick… read more

As most of you may have experienced, we have been dealing with sensory-seeking challenging behaviors for a very long time, they come and go and vary in topography. The current behavior my 13 year old engages in that has been going on for more than 2 years is playing with his saliva. I am a behavior analyst and I, along with his therapist have tried almost every recommended alternative such as oral aides (chew toys, chewing gum, wearing a mask, playing with corn starch, chia paste etc), spitting… read more

Holding Saliva In Mouth For Extensive Periods Of Time
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question đź’

Hi. I'm an AU teacher with a student who has a new habit (past 2 weeks) of holding his saliva in his mouth. He hovers over the garbage when we bring him to the garbage. I have tried to use reward items and activities he typically loves but he does not budge when it comes to this. I have read that this can affect children's teeth and after the child coughed last week, it went all over everything and everyone. I have contacted home but his guardian is lost and desperate to change the behavior.
