Hi, Has Anyone Used TheraPeeds In Fla? Asking For A Family From Abroad With A Tween Boy Who Is Looking Into This Center.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am a psychologist in Santiago, Chile. The family has been given this resource to address extreme tantrums and frustration tolerance issues. The center seems very expensive. Their own testimonials give positive reviews. I an wondering whether anyone has gone through their behavioral training for individuals and families and what your experience was like?

A MyAutismTeam Member

I agree that what happens before the behavior and how it is handled play a part in maintaining the behaviors.

My Daughter Is Beginning To Show Signs Of Aggression And Self Injury....
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter is about to turn 7 (she was diagnosed when she was 2 with moderate autism) and is becoming more aggressive when she doesn't get her way or is told "no" and she's recently started to cause self injury, I'm not really wanting to have to put her on medication for this but I have been reading about "Risperdal" what are your thoughts on this and has anyone used this to help their child with autism to help with their aggression, self injury or temper tantrums?

Help With Aggressive 3 Year Old
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 3, and HFA. For the last few months, his tantrums/meltdowns have become violent and aggressive. It started with biting, hitting, scratching and kicking. We have implemented time out (doesn't always work)
One therapist advised us to walk away from him. That seemed to work at first. However, lately, he has started getting more aggressive - throwing objects and even furniture. I have tried ignoring, time out and restraining him, but no method seems to work
These tantrums seem to come… read more

Hitting And Kicking
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son just turned 3 he has been having behavor problems for the past 6 months or so. He hits and kicks, and head butts. He mostly only does it to me. We had a behavioral Theropist come out, she suggested I just walk away. My son can run. He would never just let me walk away. I've tried spanking it seems to upset him but, not enough to stop what he is doing. Anyone have any suggestions I might try. What worked for you?

And lasted a good 10 minutes before my mom can in yelling at us to just give him the pillow. And I'm trying to teach him he can't have things that aren't him. And then I feel bed fir not giving in to him cause the tantrum could have been avoided

A MyAutismTeam Member

You were on the right track, "extinction" (completely ignoring his tantrum, including not showing an stress or emotion that he might detect) for the tantrum behavior is what I would have done as well… read more

Violence
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a REALLY big problem with my autistic son being mean or even violent to his younger brother. I've tried time-out, but he won't stay in it. He's too strong for me to restrain him in time-out. What should I do?

My son is 12 yrs. old. He is on the mild spectrum autism. He has been going to school since he's been 2. He's displayed tantrums in the past, but lately they are getting out of hand. He is getting to the point where he is hitting the staff and students at his school, and starting hitting at home on me and my mother. Throwing things and destroying property.
