My son has autism and is non-verbal. I feel that seeing the dentist would require sedation as well. Thanks in advance!

I am a nursing student as well as a mom to a 7yo boy with Asperger's. While talking to one of my instructors who also has a son on the spectrum it came about that both of our kids had, at various times, undergone general anesthesia(mine was once for adenoid/ear surgery, and once for an MRI). Does anyone have suggestions on how best to find a good oral surgeon who specializes in working with special needs people? I took my 18 yr old autistic son in to the oral surgeon for his xray and consultation. I was not impressed with how they delivered the information to him..it made him MORE anxious!!! My youngest is displaying signs of ASD. We have had her evaluated once, she was a little behind in speech and language but the evaluator was not concerned. We are trying for another eval with videos of her range of behaviors. My concern is that after watching her older brothers regress that she will do the same. I am doing research on the brain and how Owen associates color. He wants everyone in “blue pants” which is technically blue jeans but any blue pants will do.

We have a Mri for tomorrow at 9 and he will be put to sleep for about a hour and I am very nervous about it .I had not known that he would be put all the way under anyone else have this done?

We have tongue-tie surgery this week and they say the recovery will be 3-5 days because of his age. Has anyone been through this surgery with a child and have any advice for before and after? Or what to expect?

Hi everyone! I wanted to ask everyone a question. My 25 yr old son is non-verbal on the spectrum and very very nervous when it comes to doctors and dentists. He is scheduled for sedation in order to get a regular dental cleaning and checkup. He was younger , maybe 17 or 18 when he last had his wisdom teeth taken out under sedation and he did well.

My daughter is due for her check up and cleaning. I called a new dentist because the last place we went was awful. They told me they are willing to put her under general so they can get her check up and cleaning done. Is this a normal procedure? How do you accomplish a dentist appointment
