Does anyone have suggestions on how best to find a good oral surgeon who specializes in working with special needs people? I took my 18 yr old autistic son in to the oral surgeon for his xray and consultation. I was not impressed with how they delivered the information to him..it made him MORE anxious!!! I am also very concerned about the general anesthetic..and how he will come out of it..combative? sick? also, knowing how autistic people handle pain (not very well, thank you) and the 3 or 4… read more

Hi all,
My son does not sleep well at all and sometimes not at all. We started with melatonin which had a reverse effect and kept him awake. Tried night time teas, sensory vests, brushing, etc. He is currently on trazedone and has been for some time. We cannot increase because of his size. We start the process each night at 8 and usually by 11:30 or 12 he is asleep until 6. Looking for any advice or tips on how to get him to bed faster and easier :)

My son is 6 years old has been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome since February 2013 and also has ADHD w/ anger. My son is 3 he is in a great deal of therapies, his schedule and routine are very important to him! I have had my two children (6&4) sleeping with me for the last 6 months or so exclusively. Before that, my daughter with sleep issues would get up between 10pm and 3am every night and crawl in bed, or wake up no later than 4am daily, or both. For me it's less disruptive to my sleep to just have my kids in here, although privacy (didn't have much to begin with) goes out the window for the most part. So, I gave up. My 5 year old son won't sleep in his bed. We moved it into our room but he still prefers to sleep in "big bed" as he calls it. How did you get your kids to sleep in their own bed?

Today I was at Target and saw a woman with a baby calling out for her son. I began to help her look when he re-appeared; he wasn't lost. He'd run off. He was about four. I observed his behavior and it was clear there were some significant issues. He bounced off the walls and jumped from one thing to the next.
