Moving To Dallas
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am a teacher and I will be moving to South Dallas really soon. I am trying to decide where to live based on the school district. Does any one know about Arlington ISd, Cedar Hill, Midlothian, Mansfield, or any of the surrounding school district as for as providing Autism services. I NEED ADVICE FAST.

Does Anyone Know Of A Good Psychologist Near Annandale VA That Has Afternoon/evening Hours?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Just moved to Annandale, VA and am looking for a psychologist for my Aspie. Unfortunately most in the military network have bankers hours. High school lets out at 2:55 pm, but most doctors on the insurance list have their last appointment starting at 3pm.

I guess we were spoiled in Louisiana to have a great doctor who takes TRICARE Prime that saw him every Tuesday from 4 to 5 pm.

Looking for suggestions.

TIA!

What Should Social Training At School For An 11 Year Old With Aspergers Include?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 11 and diagnosed with Asperger's spring of 2014. In his 504 plan it states that they school counselor will provide him with 'social training'. Well we are on week 5 of school and I saw the counselor while at the school yesterday and asked her when his training would begin.

1-she didn't realize that my son now has a 504 plan for ASD (she knew about his IEP for gifted....he is high functioning, but misses social cues left and right!)

2-she is open for suggestions for what to do… read more

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be looking them up. The FaceSay website looks very interesting. Our Psychologist recommended the book Creative Therapy 52 Exercises for Groups by Dossick & Shea.

My 13 Yo Son Has Poor Executive Functioning Skills. It's An Ongoing Battle & Hygiene Is The Biggie. See Additional Details For The Question
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

He strives to be independent and won't let me help him brush his teeth but he just doesn't do a good job. The kid would never brush his teeth if I didn't nag him. This is probably a typical teen boy thing anyway but it's bad. Really bad. He brushes his teeth every morning but at night it's a 50/50 shot. I'm sitting in the dentist office right now where they have told me, yet again, how concerned with his oral health they are. The times he doesn't brush his teeth at night is because it turns into… read more

Maybe one of the 3 sided ASD toothbrushes I've seen advertised? I've never used it with my kid....but it looks awesome and would make it quicker to brush his teeth. Might be worth a try.

Vitamin B12
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone givin their kids vitamin b12 before? Not the injections but the actual vitamins. If so, does it help their child in any way at all

A MyAutismTeam Member

Many years ago - decades in fact, when we were at the start of our real Autism journey we tried it and it didn't really seem to do much, if anything.

How To Help My Son Listen More
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son loses focus a lot. What can I do to help him. And what are you guys thoughts on giving your kid medication too help them focus and listen

A MyAutismTeam Member

I usually would let my son look at me first, eye contact is important and then use a calm voice, making sure he can hear me and then give him a chance to respond being patient for his response.

I will be seeing an allergist doctor in two weeks, I will definitely ask for an allergy food guide. My daughter went from eating her meals and then stopped. Now she only eats a few favorites. Thanks… read more
