Very new to all of this....one of the recommendations my son rec'd w/ his diagnosis was to consider ABA therapy. Our insurance covers it (partial)...what does it entail? Is it worth it?
He just turned 4 (yesterday) and is in school for 1/2 days 5 days a week and in a preschool program for 1/2 day on Tues & Thurs.
Thank you all so much...this has been very insightful!
My son is almost three and nonverbal. He has not ate solid foods since he was one and a half. He only drinks from a bottle just milk but I do mix yogurts in them when I can get him to drink it. He also drinks PediaSure. His iron levels are good and he is healthy no problem with weight loss, sleep well and is active. I'm currently on a waiting list to get a diagnosis. He is fearful of anything coming near his mouth he doesn't put toys in his mouth, but he also doesn't allow us to brush his teeth… read more
Reagan, I figured you did, but wanted to share, maybe someone could use the information. That's a good idea, super food powder, I may try that method for my daughter Janelle. You know down the line we… read more
Hey All! I am looking for ideas for a gluten free, dairy free drink for my 3yo son with ASD. I googled it and found OneSource- it is lactose free but made from milk. He is not lactose intolerant.. it is a full-on dairy allergy. No whey or casein so that isn't going to work. I know there has to be SOMETHING out there along the lines of Boost or Ensure.. with his autism he is VERY particular about what he will eat. I have him on a multivitamin but I feel like I need to do more. Any suggestions?
Don't even bother with the neocate...it just impossible to drink it taste awful...try other milks. Even thought it doesn't have many calories as ensure, they are really good for autistic kids. I will… read more
Exercise, yoga or dance therapy? Eat healthy? Sleep or nap nicely? Hike or ride or walk?
Thanks.
My son is basically on a liquid diet now because his food aversions have gotten so bad. There are only a few solid foods he will eat and they are junk food/carbs. He won’t eat any meat, veggies or fruit. We have been giving him Carnation Essentials in almond milk but that has a dairy base, as does things like Boost and Ensure, and we are trying to get him off dairy as we feel it contributes to his gastrointestinal problems (constipation). Does anyone know of any good non-dairy nutritional… read more
Simple Spectrum Supplement is really good if he will drink it. Supposedly it’s flavorless but it’s not. It has kind of an orange taste to it. So it can hide well in orange juice. Which is the one… read more
Do you write your own IEP goals before an IEP meeting? How do you decide what your goals will be? Are they academic goals? or Functional goals? Do you present them to the teacher before the meeting? Do you have a goal for each area of concern? Have they been receptive to your contributions?
Yes you can. You should find the points in Wright's law for every failure of theirs. Many advocates are free of charge
My case it is quantities and maths because son Jas will open/crack all the eggs open or open all the juices to drink. He has to get everything out and won't recognise it is same object - sweets too he has been like this - makes himself sick
Lock up items he has access to. Does he have pica? Too much of anything is dangerous.
Has anyone else been through this? She is so rigid about changing anything, it's a complete meltdown when we try.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about the struggles of your son and your family. Feeding issues are no joke, it's been the hardest part of our journey. I've often wondered if we would ever find ourselves at… read more
