Try sugar free "enhancers" like the blue raspberry flavor squeezesby Crystal Lite. That way you can control how much flavor is being added.
My son is 3. Will be 4 in Nov. For the most part he does pretty good in school. Every day, like clock work, at or after lunch he takes off his shoes. When his teacher gets after him to put them back on he'll sit or lie down on the floor. For the most part he'll just lay there quietly, almost like he's lost in his own world. His teacher says he's just doing it for attention. And he's just doing it to be defiant. I can't help it if my baby has sensitive feet. And if you get mad at him for taking… read more
I would explore the reason. Spend some time and change the routine at/after lunch. Take shoes off for 15 minutes before lunch. Change the shoes (if you haven't already). Be sure it's about sensitive… read more
My 4yo non verbal son has a very dry scalp, he is not a fan of baths and showers ,though i do give him a shower atleast one to two times a week with help from my husband ...other times i wipe him down and use dry shampoo...the issue is that he has a severely dry scalp.
What do you parents use to help get rid of it and what do you do to prevent it from coming back?
My kiddo has the same problem but only during the winter months, when he was younger we used coconut oil on his scalp. Now that Tereus is older we buy the head and shoulders dry scalp and we put the… read more
Let's say my son is asking for a piece of candy. Suppose I say no because he is about to have dinner. He gets really upset, almost as if his whole world hinges on that one piece of candy. It does not matter if we are in public or at home, things quickly escalate out of control. He will at first start asking a lot of questions fearfully, "But what am I gonna do?" or "But I want it." He will repeat it over and over again. I keep answering the same way, "Because you are about to have dinner." or… read more
This sounds too easy to be true, but our childhood development specialist told us to walk away to a nearby room in earshot when there is a meltdown. (The meltdowns were at home). Often, it works! (He… read more

Thanks taking a quick look. I am writing on behalf of another Autistic Child and his family. I will not go into all the details. Since the process is long and it is tied into court, he has no protection. He has been just stripped away from his day to day routine, home, and taken to a place with nothing but strangers (note this isn't a fostercare issue). As we all know, this must be devasting for the child.
I asking if anyone as run across resources in CA or Nationally that will be a… read more
Thanks guys!! I will pass everything on to the family and they really are greatful.
I am under attack because i have been accused of misusing my autistic son's money. ok, food stamps are based on my house hold size,(4 people two younger children) and the income my son and i have together. they add his SSI in with my social security benefits and then give us food stamps for a family of 4 based on the entire household income. In public housing, they add the entire household income and then charge 30% of the entire houshold income. Energy assistance is also based on the entire… read more
Oh, it's a special education lawyer? I thought that had to do with school not SSI. Hmmmm- that will be my next effort then, thanks asdtimesthree
I am in immediate need of a family law attorney (the case is Northern CA) that has experience with/understands that the needs of a child with autism and intellectual disabilities are different and require a lot more time, effort and money on the part of the parent with custody. My first attorney didn't get it. How do I find an attorney with this specialized experience and quickly? Any suggestions appreciated!
Thank you!

I didn't have money for a lawyer and ended up filing myself. And won. And you have way more to hand to judge than I did. Be brave and stand tall for those kiddos! Hugs!
Sorry. I didn't know it was for custody. I just saw legal and advocate. The disability law center does provide legal and advocacy but for issues around school and around medicaid..... ie. the… read more
