I started my son's program two months after his 3rd birthday. I learned to do the 1:1 DTT myself. I solicited local college students and trained and supervised them for twelve years. Within 18… read more

Similar to what was previously mentioned, if you say, "ok if you do a good job on your iPad today, then you will get to go to the playground." Or whatever reward you want to give to get him to value… read more
He is in third grade, and doing well in some subjects but still struggles with others. He also receives speech therapy. Another consideration is that they can't afford to pay more than $1800 per month for rent.
Thanks!
There are some grants out there. This is one that I know of http://www.uhccf.org/ but I have heard that there are others.
Daycare will not administer medication per policy so this is preventing some parents from obtaining employment out side the home. Any solutions?
What is the purpose of ABA therapy and how do you know when to stop going? Our child is 3.5 HFA and has met all of his goals and now he is getting new goals. I wonder about graduating from ABA. Is it only for problem and repetitive behaviors? Is it for stopping stemming like lining up cars and hand flapping? Thanks
Jordanliam, One thought would be to get him a butch haircut. If he can't get a hold of it, he can't pull it.
This is the solution that has worked for my child. He is 10 years old. This has worked for him for about 3 years. Prior to that, he had other medications but they did not work or had side effects… read more
I have been doing a lot of research on the internet lately to see if there is any other natural things that may be of use to my severe autistic 13 yr old daughter for self injury. I have seen a lot of people try supplements B6, Calcium, Magnesium, & DMG and some have had a lot of success. Just wondering if anyone has tried these with their child? and the outcomes? Any negative effects?
I've given my son B6 and Magnesium together before. After a few months, it seemed to lesson his hyperactivity. I gave him DMG when he was younger, but I don't remember how well it worked.
My son is exceptionally good at sneaking things in his pockets even when we're close by. He then says his brain told him to. He as no control of his thoughts or impulses and rarely understands what he's done is wrong. We've tried all kinds of instructions and disciplines and nothing changes the behavior.
Very likely, he doesn't understand perspective-taking and, hence, cannot understand the weight of his behaviors ... Seek CBT and a speech therapist for advise.
He won't be specific about anything in particular, but he has repeatedly told me he hates himself. I can tell him all the things I think are great, and remind him of the compliments he's gotten from others around him. He doesn't get in trouble that often and he gets lots of positive feedback throughout the day about specific things he does that are helpful or nice. It makes me so sad to hear him say it, and I don't think he's saying it just to get a reaction. He otherwise has very hard time… read more
