Absolutely. My son has a splintered profile. His sensory needs change like the weather, so things can go up and down quite randomly

Looking For Suggestions In Getting 6 Yr Old Dressed For School.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 6 years old and attends school M-F. Lately every morning it has been a challenge getting our son to get dressed. He has a meltdown and fights with us. He punches, kicks, screams, you name it. If we tell him to stop hitting he has even more of a meltdown. This has become an issue not because by the time he finally calms down and gets dressed we end up being late to school. We have tried having him pick his clothes. We have also tried having multiple options available to him when getting… read more

Anyone Ever Try Supplements (B6, Calcium, Magnesium, DMG) To Help Reduce Self Injury? Outcomes?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been doing a lot of research on the internet lately to see if there is any other natural things that may be of use to my severe autistic 13 yr old daughter for self injury. I have seen a lot of people try supplements B6, Calcium, Magnesium, & DMG and some have had a lot of success. Just wondering if anyone has tried these with their child? and the outcomes? Any negative effects?

A MyAutismTeam Member

I've given my son B6 and Magnesium together before. After a few months, it seemed to lesson his hyperactivity. I gave him DMG when he was younger, but I don't remember how well it worked.

I would seek the advice of a professional physician. There is no known side effects of melatonin — although it has to be prescribed where I live for children, it isn't an over-the-counter option.

Hello

"autism Friendly" Salons In The Boston MA Area
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Good morning

My son Diego is 5 and diagnosed with autism. Due to his sensory sensitivity (around his ears and neck) we have a hard time getting him to get a haircut. His last one was in November and very traumatic for him. I have goggled barbershop/salons that are good with autistic kids and have had no luck so far. We took him last summer to snip it’s (Peabody, MA) and it also didn’t go well. The lady wasn’t listening to us and didn’t know how to deal with kids with special needs. I was… read more

Heyyy
Haircuts have always been a challenge for my son as well. Recently, I realized that one of the reasons he feels uncomfortable during haircuts is because of the smock that covers his arms. It… read more

To Discipline? What Is The Best Course Of Action?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Good Morning Team,

Problem: Alex is 8, deals with separation anxiety 5 days of the week when his dad isn't here (at work) and we have a routine for dealing. He is very verbal now, but when the meltdowns and tantrums (yes, I can tell the difference) happen he is thrashing around and has sometimes hurt me, he has broken stuff. It scares me. Discipline has a reverse affect and I don't know what to do! Help?

How Can I Get My Almost 4 Year Old To Poop In The Toilet?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

He is completely pee trained, morning and night. He doesn’t want the pull up anymore. He won’t poop in the toilet, but also is fighting the pull-ups. He’s now gone 2 days without pooping and he is in pain. He keeps saying no like booboo and take booboo, while holding his stomach. And he wants me to pick him up and thinks cream will make the pain go away so he keeps applying cream on his stomach 😢
I don’t know how to help him poop. Any suggestions? I’ve tried bribery and he isn’t motivated by tv… read more

To a child, that's a huge hole, enough to swallow them.
I can only guess to My Son it was the noise, or the splash of water on the butt that startles them.
