When You Child Is Doing His/her Rituals (eg. Touching All The Chairs), If It Isn't Harming Anyone, Do You Stop Them Or Let Them Do It?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Sometimes when my daughter is playing, she will have a little routine/ritual. For example, she will have to go over and say something to my son, then go touch the garbage can, then turn on the lights and do this cycle a few times over. That's just one example. Is it helpful to get them out of doing rituals and redirect their attention or are you supposed to let them do it?

I would let them do it, it makes them feel safe and confident Over time you will learn how to get them to move to something else. Remember every child is different and will respond to different cues

13 Year Old Asd Girl Experiences Voices Anyone Else?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I'm not sure how to word this one but here goes nothing! I've approached multiple doctors for my 13 year old daughter who has asd and she says she hears voices that tell her to do bad things. I've had numerous doctors tell me this is normal for girls with asd, has anyone else experienced this???

Any Tips For Potty Training A Nonverbal 4 Year Old?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 4 year old son is nonverbal, diagnosed with level 2 autism. I've just started an attempt at potty training, but with not much success. He will sit on the potty but very briefly. He shows no sign that he has to "go" and is not bothered at all by a full diaper. I've tried setting a timer, offering rewards and set up a little potty area with books but I'm not having much luck. Any tips or support would be so appreciated!

Does Your ABA Therapy Intervention Plan Include Separate BIP(Behavior Intervention Plan) For Addressing Fixation Behavior?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is getting ABA therapy services from Autism Learning Partners. He exhibits fixations and occasionally tantrums. They have a BIP in place for tantrums but no BIP in place for fixations. Currently they are letting fixations to escalate to tantrums and using the BIP for tantrums. Can someone help answer this how it works for your kid? This is from Autism Learning Partners, Downey branch.

Thank you so much for your reply. In my son's case the fixations are resulting in lot of distress if not catered to. When you tell your kid "first do this then fixation thingy" it works. But for my… read more

What Can Be Done To Help Headbanging/hitting Head?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter has always hit her head with both hands in every sinario (even when she first wakes up) but recently it's been getting very hard and I just don't know what to do about it, it's so hard to try distract her and try to find any triggers is seeming to be impossible, any advise would be greatly appreciated, especially since the woman who normally works with my child is off on holiday 😬

Trying To Get My Son To Start Sleeping Alone.
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Good Evening Everyone. So My son has a bonding thing when sleeping. He can not sleep alone. He is now 13 years old & STILL refuses to sleep alone. Before I would lay with him until he dozed off then go to my bed when he's asleep. As he is getting older I would then sit on the edge of the bed until he goes to sleep. Today as I type this I wanted to try a different method now that he is officially a teenager. I am sitting on a chair outside his room until he dozes off but he is tossing & turning &amp… read more
