She has fairly long and thick hair! It’s beautiful most of the time. She has a sensitive scalp. My thought was to get her in the bathtub, put a bunch on conditioner on her and leave it in her hair until after I get through it all!? I don’t know…
Thank you all so much! When she broke her arm last year, my mother and I took her to a specialty salon for kids (and had staff trained on how to work with kids with autism) called Snip-It’s. Worst… read more
I have had my two children (6&4) sleeping with me for the last 6 months or so exclusively. Before that, my daughter with sleep issues would get up between 10pm and 3am every night and crawl in bed, or wake up no later than 4am daily, or both. For me it's less disruptive to my sleep to just have my kids in here, although privacy (didn't have much to begin with) goes out the window for the most part. So, I gave up. The benefits outweigh the drawbacks right now. Others in my household don't agree… read more
I agree that what works for your family is what is best for your family. Personally I never let my kids sleep in my bed. I have two neuro typical kids (now adults) and one teen with ASD and sleep… read more
Hello everyone! This is my first time posting to this forum, but I've been a long time lurker. ;) I have a 6-year-old daughter who was diagnosed with Autism 2 years ago. She also has OCD and a healthy dose of anxiety. We have struggled with sensory processing issues for years, including auditory, olfactory, and tactile sensitivities. Getting dressed and staying dressed, in particular, is one of our biggest challenges. I know we are far from alone, and the options for dressing our sensitive… read more
That is an incredible idea!👏👏
Does anyone else have a problem with their kids putting too much food in their mouth at once? Little Man will literally put almost an entire half sandwich in his mouth at once and then try to chew it up. Is this an autism/sensory thing? That possibility just occured to me today but I don't know if there's actually a connection there. Anyone else have experience with this?
@vwmommy-Unfortunately, one of the twin autistic females in our family who is 23yrs old has been doing this for 10 years. We constantly have to watch her because there have been a few times that all… read more
Age 4-5 and it was a struggle. It helped when we switched to big girl panties and told her Minnie Mouse would be sad if she pee-pee on her. At night we still did the pull ups. That got things moving… read more
My husband has to have major lung surgery and I am not sure how to tell my autistic son what is happening and what will go on after the surgery.
I think so much depends on what they already understand. For some, they might just need to be prepared for th parents absence, the reason not even needing to be mentioned. Others might just need a… read more
We have tongue-tie surgery this week and they say the recovery will be 3-5 days because of his age. Has anyone been through this surgery with a child and have any advice for before and after? Or what to expect?
That’s how we do things- never let go because it’s hard. Sometimes things can sting inside a wound so just be sure to time the medicine accordingly- the peroxyl may sting a bit and the sensation… read more
Hello! My son is 16, ASD, soon to be 17 is scheduled for a heel cord lengthening surgery due to toe walking 100% of his life. Has anyone had a teen that have had this surgery? I would like to know exactly what to expect and if it was beneficial. Thanks in advance
My granddaughter toe walks and the doctors at Larabida were not helpful in responding to the issue. My granddaughter is 19 and we did a lot of things including night time cast, stretching protocols… read more
Has anyone with an asd child had their child get tonsils and adenoid surgery? If so did any ones child regress at all? ? Speech or any way? ?
When my daughter went in for surgery to have her gtube installed when she was 3 we did see quite a lot of regression, but the surgery was in the midst of a lot of medical trauma. She has a white blood… read more
