How do u know if your child needs ABA?
It’s usually the recommendation of the Dr who diagnosed. If it’s something you’re considering then you’d have an evaluation done just like with other services like speech and OT

I am the step mom of a 10 year old boy diagnosed 2 years ago on the Autism spectrum. He lives with his mom in PA, has the autism waiver in PA and attends public school there. He has an IEP, has special assistance from support teachers, has a periodic check in with an autism specialist from Vista outreach services (which specializes in Autism), and other support services through school. He is very high functioning, is in a regular classroom, gets Bs and Cs in grades and is very social. (He… read more
Sorry for the long delay in response, I have not been logging on as I should. Well, to find a behaviorist I would contact the school and see if they contract with one. If that turns up no leads, I… read more
We have been going back and forth. With our 25 year old son who is autistic, with aggressive behaviors. He was on respiradone and the doctor changed it to invega which worked for the first 7 days and then all hell broke loose whe. He started to become so hyperactive and was eating until he vomits. My daughter and 2 of her classmates will soon "age-out" of our state's education program for special needs children. They have "behaviors" that will prevent them from obtaining and keeping a job. There are also no affordable facilities or programs for young adults in our area. As a group we would like to develop a program similar to the one they have at school but lack the funds. I've researched online but was only shown sites to obtain funding for chartering a school which is not what we… read more

It is a form of negligence called medical negligence, I believe, for a parent to not give meds. I’m shocked that DCFS won’t do anything! CPS? My ex is the same but my child is only on meds when she is… read more
My son was not diagnosed with ASD until he was 11, he is now almost 13. Prior to that he was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. After a reevaluation this summer it was determined he has Asperger's and ADHD. He has always had difficulty with aggression, but some of the more obvious ASD behaviors have increased since starting puberty. (More perseveration, vocal stimming, tantrums, threats, entering others personal space). The school has refused to acknowledge that his behaviors are due to Autism… read more
