We were assigned a team of Intensive In Home Therapists following my 16 year old son's last hospitalization in early June. I am finding this endeavor to be vastly unsuccessful, partly due to his non-cooperation, but also due to the 'red tape' that seems to override actual services. Has anyone had positive/negative experiences with IIHS before?
I'm not sure if it's defined as intensive, but the bulk of my daughter's ABA therapy hours are in-home sessions. Naomi has responded extremely well since her in-home 7 hours per week started last… read more
I am looking for people in the northeast area of Tennessee who home school. I am looking for children to socialize with my daughter who is 12 and relates well with 10 and 11 year Olds well. I also have a nephew would is 10. We home school independently
We would love to form a co-op with similar parents. Please contact me if interested.
Thanks so much for sharing this info with the group. I am sure it can help others that have problems sometimes understanding what our kids are asking for.
OK, just for fun... Autism Riddle of the day: 12yo J runs around the house giggling hysterically yelling "Come back here you acid spitting varmint!" So - what is he doing????
nope, he was chasing after a house fly with the fly swatter. J is an animal lover and knows the most obscure facts about living creatures. I guess flies spit acid before the eat, and no one likes… read more
We are currently working with a group of in-home therapists. My 16 year old with HFA has not been cooperative with them. They recommended him for a level II group home but he was denied based upon 'too aggressive' behaviors! We are now back to the drawing board and have to go through a whole new process to recommend for a level III or level IV home. My question is that these placements are for 3-6 months max. and are meant to offer stability and coping skills so that the child can then come… read more
My son will not get into a car, he has a complete meltdown. He even gets upset if we walk to rite aid and when we go in I have to stay away from the doors that lead to the back room, if he sees it he will freak. He has not been to a doctor in over a year and a half. We have tried everything. We walked to dunkins and tried to go in and he took a fit, so we had to leave
We have had a behavioral therapist work with him, and that did not work, neither did the ABA people. We have tried toys and his… read more
very cool idea but light will not work for us.
My 11 year old son who has a diagnosis of Asperger's and ADHD has been having intense pain in his groin area a few times a day for the past year. He has been to the urologist twice where she has ruled out any medical problems. She believes he's feeling a heightened sensitivity that he needs to learn to control. She doesn't want to put him on a course of hormones as it could interfere with his development and I agree. However, this issue has taken control of his life. He sees it as a ticking… read more
Does he see a physical therapist? I am a PT and groin pain can result from dysfunction in the hip. It can be caused by muscle tightness, a tear in the labrum, improper biomechanics of the joint… read more
My son is 11 years old and has been on Abilify for 5 years. He was prescribed this med to help reduce tantrums at school relating to feeling overwhelmed by schoolwork. Initially, we believed the medication helped, but it has led to significant weight gain. Now that he is 11 years old and in a special school that is more nurturing, I am not sure he needs Abilify and I am eager to get him off it given the side effects. We have tapered him from 7.5mg, to 5mg with no problem. However, about a… read more
I’m having the same exact issue, my 19 year old has now twice been taken off and this time not put back on.. he became manic he became mannequin, having a hard time to control him, his behavior… read more
My son is 10 years old (looks like he is 13). Any idea on how to get my son to bed at a reasonable hour? He stays up all night and sleeps in during the day. It is worse in the school year as if he is bored with what the are teaching he will put his head down and fall asleep.
I have tried calming bed room routines. He is not so dumb to think that a drink a few hours b/f bed probably has something in it. He doesn't fall for that anymore. He doesn't like milk unless it is in his morning cereal… read more
That's true but there is a reason for it. Figure that out. We had and continue to have also problems. But each time we realize something that caused it. I figure that out, change how I do things and… read more
We are in need of a loving person to spend time with our daughter on a regular basis (Mon - Fri) sometimes weekends. Pays $8 an hour. She's a sweetheart, but, I am sick. Thanks!
My son is also going on 24 yrs. and is high functioning. Does your daughter use the internet or know how to text? Maybe they can be pen pals and share interests. 😊
