My son is 11 years old and has been on Abilify for 5 years. He was prescribed this med to help reduce tantrums at school relating to feeling overwhelmed by schoolwork. I’m having the same exact issue, my 19 year old has now twice been taken off and this time not put back on.. he became manic he became mannequin, having a hard time to control him, his behavior, out-of-control, emotional outbursts, and the psychiatrist that it was safe to take them off in three days, and he says no problem with it.
My son is on Abilify and we tried taking him off last summer it was a nightmare his behavior was crazy he was out of control I also think it has made him a little more compulsive however when I ask the psychiatrist he tells me this isn’t what Abilify does.
We had something similar happen and you do have to back it off slowly. If you are having issues you may have to try another med and then back off the ability while on the second one. This is what we had to do and while the second med took the edge off we eliminated the abilify
