We are considering it for our 12 year old with serious processing issues and inattentiveness.
I read the book and personally felt like it was pseudoscience. There isn't any objective research to support its effectiveness.
We gave our son a Children's vitamin with magnesium. This greatly reduced his biting and pulling hair, but it seemed to cause flapping and making noises.(rarely ever flapped without this) This happened on 2 separate occasions of using this vitamin so it appears to be the vitamin. He still has some aggressive behavior in certain situations, but seems to be able to stop himself.
I would try a different multi. Kirkman or klaire labs brands are great. There is also multi ANRC that was used in double blind study that showed efficacy in ASD which can be purchased.
My son hyperventilates. Anybody had any similar experience?
Yes, there wasn't much I could do but breath into his face to keep him from holding his breath. It would change his respiration enough to pull him out of his tantrum. I also used a bike helmet on him… read more
We live in colorado, where inclusion is the goal like in most places. I think that's great and would love for my son to eventually be mainstreamed. My issue is my 3 year old is already in a inclusion classroom, so they have a regular teacher, 2 aids and then a specialist that rotates between the schools. So on Monday the special needs teacher is there, Tuesday the speech, ect. The issue is there are 13 kids and my son isn't getting enough care or services. Has anyone fought to get there child in… read more

So my foster son has glasses. He just got them in September for severe cross eyes when focusing on things. Since getting the glasses he actually LOOKS at thing, he did not look at anything before this. He is 12 but developmentally 1year, so he doesn't always want his glasses (miraflex frames) over his eyes…the problem is at home we say "glasses" or even just look at him when he moves them and he moves them back. A lot of the time he leaves them alone, because there is some one with him all the… read more
Put it in his IEP, it's a law that they have to follow his IEP.
Wondering how many folks are on a GFCF diet? Success?
My son was not compliant and we did not see a difference. However, we see a difference when we avoid food dyes, high fructose corn syrup and preservatives.
My four year old daughter is HFA/Asperger's. She is extremely high functioning, verbal and intelligent. She passes as neurotypical with most people we meet. We've been attempting to potty train her from the time she was 2 (pre-diagnosis) with varying levels of success. There have been times when she is able to self-regulate peeing on the toilet, but only very occasionally with bowel movements.
Lately, perhaps because we are expecting a younger sibling, she's been having more and more frequent… read more
Often normal girls have trouble potty training. When my son was 4 and still in diapers or Pull-Ups, I came to a point of using cloth diapers. It worked very much in potty training him.
Sorry, if this has been asked before.
My son (he will be three soon,) is currently having speech and occupational therapy, but I would really like him to have ABA Therapy, as I have heard that it works really well for children with autism.
I have BlueCrossBlueShield Of Illinois health insurance, which I get through my husband's employer. They have told me, that they don't cover this, so I feel at a dead end. The only options I have, are to go with another insurance provider who do cover this… read more

I live in Florida but his insurance is BlueCrossBlueshield Of Illinois.
I will look into these groups and see if they can help. :)
My son's OCD has gotten worse. Even when on medication. He will lick people, like the floor, try to make his food touch the floor, randomly throw items, scratch people and bang his head.
i have just started. going to spend a lot of time on line researching when they are gone in 2 weeks for my respite time. I did read some but it did not really stick with me so am not thinking it is… read more
I want to brainstorm. Next year my oldest is going into Jr. High. He is currently has an autism IEP and is in a mainstream classroom 95% of the time, but he isn't doing well. He has a lot of troublesome behaviors, problems with bullying, poor grades, and incomplete work. He needs a lot of redirection to get any work done and he struggles the most during transition times.
Now I have a few options for Jr. High that I am exploring (aide in class, special autism classroom, homeschooling, or… read more
