My son receives excellent grades despite always hearing he's slower than his peers. However, he's in middle school now and his math grades have steadily dropped to C's. His teacher says the bulk of his grade is because he's not quick enough to recite his math facts. I suspect this is because he has a methodical approach and system with everything he does. I think an IEP is a great idea-if you think your child will benefit from it. This is just my opinion, who cares if he can't get the answer quickly. I'd praise a child who could give me the answer-and seeing him/her figure it out-and the answer usually is always correct!
