I took B to a new therapy place today and they want to try food therapy because Ben really only eats about 10 things due to his sensory issues. Has anyone tried this? I hate to pay for a therapy that does not work. Thanks
they have a lab that makes vitamins specifically for your autistic child they also test for other things...to much mercury...for ex: (thats through stool that u send to them with their containers...autistics do not produce vitamin B6 as usual soo they put more than normal (alot) along w/ the magnesium that needs to be paired with B6 for absorbtion whatever...Let me get it...hold on....its "THE GREAT PLAINS LABORATORY' (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators)...pls forgive me if this info is too outdated...shouldn;t be though...Your never alone in this!
we had our son in feeding therapy. He went from individual to group and was eating more foods then last summer he became he stopped eating and had behaviors so they kicked him out. Now this was an agency that works with special needs individuals of all diagnosis and issues. They kicked him from all therapies. Now we work on it ourself. I think it is great as long as you have the right staff working with him as a whole person.
We take our son to a feeding group. They slowly teach kids how to eat healthier. For example, they take slices of cheese and sliced meat and allow the kids to put cookie cutter shapes on them. They slowly graduate them from just looking at the food, to touching the food to eating the food. Try buying some similar stuff that he likes but it's different. For example, my son loves toast, we made french toast one morning and he loved, but then hated it. But at least he ate it once! Another thing we did was buy fish sticks and cut them up like his chicken nuggets he loved and told him they were chicken and he ate them!
Our son is 5 and all he eats is Snyder small pretzels, Gerber fruit snacks, Cheerios, Lucky Charms (Marsh Mellows) only, Lays sour cream chips. Obviously nothing that is good for him. He gets his nutrients from a soy based gluten free drink called Bright Beginnings but we switched over to Pedia Sure. He weighs 70lbs and we have been to the feeding team at Children s Hospital but it has not helped much. It makes it even harder for he is non verbal as well. We are stuck and and any ideas would be great.
