Have You Found Wighted Vests Usefule And Wehre Did You Find Them? Is There A Place To See And Feel Them, Try Them On?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a question...do any of your little ones use weighted vests and if so did yall find a place to try them on and see what they liked or what fit. My little girl has had the worst weekend in a long time which is probably associated to being sick friday and her routine being interupted but her meltdowns were worse than normal and I am thinkin gthat I am ready to try the vests but wanted some info. Any suggestion??? Thanks!!!

The UnderArmor is very expensive, I understand you can get a non name brand. The purpose is for athletes to compress their muscles and help them recover from heavy activity. You have seen football players wear them. I thought of it from seeing an MMA fighter have on. It's made of a silky feeling spandex.

They make pants too. I am not sure if the pants would be healthy for a young man to wear for along periods of time or if you could wear them confortably without a cup. The shirts are just fine though. They have long sleaved ones too.

My son used weighted vests in school when was little. He is a junior in HS now. We use UnderArmor compression shirts now. They give him the pressure he needs to help be control his symptoms. He calls them his anti-twitch shirts. They are cool looking so no one knows he is wearing them for autism reasons and not just becuase they look cool.

Yes it works for a whole lot of children who are autistic. David is a severe case and the teacher had to have him wear a helmet during his younger years like 5 till 7 and then he stopped hitting his head. The vest was the same thing. David knows how to take things apart quite well. He would make a fantastic mechanic lol so he did get the vest off the minute it was put on him. He just began to use medication and now he is calming down quite well so who knows now what will happen next. The girl in Carly's choice was also a severe case and she is doing ok now. Its good to hear that some kids do well with the weighted vests however. I think it helps them in so many ways. Like calming them down so they can learn. If anything worked like that for David I would buy a hundred of them. lol.

Jax, my son's OT made his weighted vest in primary school. It was bright neon blue with orange dinosaurs on it. He loved it. She sewed big buttons on the inside in different spots. She used these big washers on the inside to weight him down. The other students were jealous of his cool vest. He wore it from Pre-school through 2nd grade. I almost cried when I saw it. What a sweet thing for this woman to do on her own time.

This is something I have not heard about so I appreciate that you mentioned them. I will look them up and see what they are all about. They might do better with little David than the weighted vests did. He simply would not wear them. Not because of how they looked because he has no conception of what he wears etc but I think it was the way they felt. Maybe these compressed shirts might be more acceptable to him. Thank you for telling us about them or me anyway.
