He will pee at school and daycare, sometimes at home but prefers pullups at home especially for # 2 and he is stubborn about it. Dont know what to do to to excite him to use toilet exclusivly! any advice!

At first I was going to say get rid of the diapers but obviously that that won't work. With our son, we discovered it was a sensory thing and when he displayed the ability to use the toilet we had to to get rid of the pullups as he would find one and put it on and go. We have younger neices who visit in the summer and we work together to keep them out of sight.

I feel for you Katie! I was 36 weeks pregnant with my second child when my son FINALLY started using the toilet. I really didn't want a newborn AND a 4 year old in diapers! But it's one of those things you just can't force them to do. I hope it works out for you!

Thank you all. i think i am just really ready for him, b/c i am 39 weeks pregnant with my third child and would love for onw of my kids to be fully trained. But i have started backing off not too much pressure on him. He also will hold it and hold it, no accidents but waits till he can get his sisters pullups to go # 2. Thanks again will post an update soon!

My 5 year old also does not use the toilet for #2. He wears underwear and never messes his pants, but he'll hold it forever unless I give him a pull up. He is very sensitive to smell and gags after his 'job'. I was advised to start by having him use the pull up in the bathroom as the fist step. The latest milestone is that now he will flush his own stuff down the toilet, even though you can tell it is very difficult for him. Most of the time I have to watch him for signs of having to pee and then go with him to the bathroom or he will wet himself, we make a little game of racing to the toilet. I also get him to sit on the toilet seat with clothes on to ease him into the idea.

His father, who only sees him 10 hours a week is on my case all the time about the issue. He once forced Zach on the toilet when Zach was asking to come home (to use a pullup)and Zach did do the job but now I find he's even more anxious, scared and unwilling to even sit on the toilet for practice. I'm going to keep trying the gentle encouraging approach so as to lower his anxiety surrounding the whole issue. I believe he will eventually use the toilet. I'm also open to any other advice. Good luck.
