Natural Ways To Boost The Immune System?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My little one seems to be constantly coming down with stuff. Today she's home with a stomach bug. What can I do to help boost her immune system naturally? Our DAN dr. mentioned low-dose Naltrexone to me once, but I'd prefer to avoid pharmaceuticals if possible.

After being Gf/cf doing elimination and avoiding all the problem food, we were still having major gut issues, we scoped and had to treat for "autistic entrecolitis" after treating for some time my son could tolerate dairy, so we did cows milk for homade yougurt. I think I've heard of it but not sure what is GAPS? I wonder if kirkman made it based on garden of life, sounds like maybe it's an hso probiotic at has like sixteen kinds. I do swear by it. Our Dan / GI recommended years ago, and tte whole family takes it. I buy on amazon, as it's easy and cheaper!

If you haven't looked into the GAPS diet, you might consider it. It takes some getting used to in making things like homemade chicken broth and yogurt but it has been well worth it for us. Improving your child's gut health and removing processed chemically laden foods will significantly enhance the immune system without pharmaceuticals. I know about 5-6 people I connect with on FB who are having great results with it too. My Joshua used to get coughs alot and alot of runny noses and odd issues like eczema that have been clearing up over the past few months on it. A good kefir base for homemade yogurt can have as many as 12 strains. Probiotics are good but very digestible and enjoyable in homemade organic yogurt. It's soooo good!

We use probiotic defense, this is a good probiotic blend with many strains (a good blend will have at least 8 strains). This has helped very much and my son only missed 2 days of schools due to a cold...which at the time I had run out of them and forgot to get them again. But got them and he got over the cold pretty quick after starting on them again. I use them for myself all the time and it cuts down on likely getting colds.

I'll have to look up Garden of Life primal defense.thanks.. we spend about $39. on the Kirkman's Probiotic defensee.

So they now have a diagnostic for Autistic entrecolitis? That is great! I wonder if the colon diagnostic center in our area would know about this... I'll have to find out. Is that mostly looking for inflammation due to food allergies or is there a certain bacteria they found?

We're doing the SCD and I'm reading about the GAPS. I didn't know about GAPS before but it looks like it would be easy to go from SCD. We do most of that already. I haven't done the homemade yogurt, we just get the probiotic defense from Kirkmans. (It's a lot easier that way.) Do you use coconut milk for culture for the yogurt?
