I would live to hear from others who have finished and already have the dog or going through the process.
We have had my son's service dog for 1.5 years. We did most.ofnour fundraising electronically and with the help of some local college students. It was definitely worth the stress for us!
We are using 4paws for ability and can't wait. Any helpful hints or tips?
i am interested in a visiting dog for an autistic adult. she is high functioning and loves dogs. we have tried to get her a dog twice and it didn't work out. these were not trained dogs. how is kaden's dog working out. where did you go for it ? how much did it cost?
Yeah we just finished fundraising for my sons dog. Wish us luck.
There is a difference between service and companion dog. An autism service dog is licensed and under federal law can go places a companion dog can't. Every year a service dog has to requalify, seems like a lot of work, but training with any dog is continuous. We are using 4 paws for ability but there are other organizations out there. Wilderwood was another reputable one. Be sure to do your research on the difference. If your looking to do it privately depending on your location I know someone who can help. Most important is that the dog and child form a bond and it's something the dog wants to do, has the right personality for it. Feel free to email me for more info.
