Feeding Concerns
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

This is not about my autistic child but about my almsot 4 month old, she eats every hour and will scream and cry if i dont feed her, the doctors say i am feeding her too much but she has eaten like this the day she was born, should i slow down on the feedings or continue with the way i am feeding her now

My kids did the same thing. As it turned out they had reflux and also needed a prescription formula. Breast feeding was not best for them. They were using me as a pacifier and maybe to feel better because of the reflux, eating too much, and unable to calm themselves.

My second child's pediatrician taught us from day 1 in the hospital: Whenever the baby cries, even if he/she was changed 10 minutes ago, do things in this order:
Diaper,
Sucking (finger or pacifier)
motion (swing, vibrating chair, whatever works....better if you don't have to walk him/her or put the child in the car for a ride or stroller)
and, Feeding as a very last resort if it's before feeding time.

It has been 13 years and I've never forgotten:
Diaper, Sucking, Motion, Feeding :-)

My son still eats every hour, eight and a half years later. He burns his calories very quickly. No problems have been diagnosed. He is not under or over weight either.

She may have a lactose intolerance. Screaming and crying after eating can cause reflux as well. If you breast feed you need to limit your diet as well. My sister had an extremely crabby baby until she eliminated dairy. We didn't realize it until our kiddo was three we needed to eliminate gluten and dairy!

have you had her tested for canidida/glutten/dairy sentivities. There are so many hidden additives even in infant forumlas. If you are nursing look at what you are eating and the ingredients that are there .
