What type of research have you been part of? What benefits did you get from being part of the study?
I've been in 2 research projects that measured the stress of parents with Autistic kids. The first one they gave me a small stipend but I really wanted the results and I never received them. The second one was conducted using a wiki site where the researcher asked questions... then we responded to that question and each others answers. That one was so more benefical because I could see how the other parents were dealing with the situation. It was focused but we had a conversation. I liked it even better than MyAutism team because there was focus. Again I never saw the results.
we have been appart of an Eye Track study. it was awesome to see what my children focus on. also, stress study, ados 2 perfect the tests, and alot of surveys. i love participating they give out gift cards, cash, etc.
My little one is currently participating in a research study on the effectiveness of methyl B12 shots for autism. She's getting 16 weeks' worth of free MB12 out of it. She may get the placebo for 8 weeks first, we won't know until they unblind her file after the initial experimental period. Our DAN dr. recommended participating because it's a way of seeing whether DD might benefit from the MB12 without us having to foot the bill for it. DD starts the shots on the 24th and we find out at the end of October which group she's in.
We just started a drug study. Even if nothing comes of it there is another "box checked" in what doesn't work. Thomas Edison reportedly said that before he invented the light bulb he found 200 ways NOT to invent it. So, right now I have hope that this may be something that makes a difference or that we are contributing to something that will make a difference to quality of life for my children.
