Is Working Toward A 5 Day A Week School Necessary?

It is a long story but the public school system decided that my son was well within their set of "normal." So we knew without any services he would start school failing. We started him at a private school that went to school half day 3 days a week and you home schooled the other 2 days using lesson plans provided by the teacher. We did that through 7th grade. You can always pull him back out if it isn't working. It doesn't have to be a permanent decision.

He's almost old enough to take college classes as an underaged student and get both HS and college credit for them. Check with your local community college or university on their policies for this. My NT son did this for some of his classes during his jr and sr year. He entered college this year full-time as a sophomore.

I suggest you need to understand why he wants to go to "a 5 day a week school". That understanding will help you determine what type of program might work best for him. Because of your concerns about bullying, I suggest you see the movie "Bullies" with him.

I would give it a shot if you want an IEP based on his Behavioral. That is if you are thinking of enrolling him back into school. And maybe try some therapy before re-enrolling him and see how that works out for him. And once you have the IEP yo can pretty much decide which road to take. It wouldn't hurt to try. Good Luck Beth xoxo
