N- Met.. Does It Work Or Is It A Fraud?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I saw an advertisment on my fb page saying it helps with sensory overload and takes the anger away. Does it work or is it a fraud?

Anything not prescription is not regulated by the FDA, not that all FDA regulated drugs/supplements are all good either, but you have no trial data to read to see what effects the chemicals had on people, honestly I do not support such manufacturers. As with any medication as well...sometimes the behavior is easier to deal with than the side effects of a drug/chemical. choose wisely because sometimes our kids aren't able to tell us if they are having a side effect.

I am going to take the information to my son's psychiatrist. I would like her to see the ingredients and hear what she thinks. There are many natural supplements that currently being studied in regards to alleviating symptoms our children suffer from. The medical community is finally coming out to support many of the issues that were once considered not helpful, etc. I recommend you read the book " The Autism Revolution" by Martha Herbert a highly recognized brain researcher. It will blow you away.

The research evidence is piling up in favor of certain biomed treatments being helpful, at least in a subset of kids with ASD. Particular brand name formulations like N-Met may not have any good research to support them, but it's easy to do a search for the individual components to see whether there is any science to back up the hype. B vitamins, TMG, and carnitine have been shown in research studies to improve ASD symptoms. Our kids cannot wait for the medical establishment to catch up with the research- it may take a decade or two before that happens, and our kids are suffering now. Biomed and traditional ASD therapies are like two blades of a pair of scissors: they work best together :-)

Thanks for all the input of the past 3 years...yes we went without and thankfully my son seems more integrated in the typical world at least I think so...the strange looks my family gave last week tells me he still has quirks that people that don't see him often understand although he claims that he and our cousin that has Chronic Fatigue had a good conversation...I am glad someone did

I LOVE this stuff! It has really helped my daughter with sensory overload issues. Less fits, doesn't hold her ears during storms anymore and will tolerate fireworks on holidays now instead of hiding in the closet. I can tell you honestly, the n-met was the only thing we added when the positive changes occurred. It doesn't claim to be a miracle cure, just a help. and it helped us!
