I took my son there and they couldn't even get thru the evaluation with him. They sent me home with the low tones music cd and a list of excercises to do with him at home. They want to try and do an evaluation with him again in 4-6 months. But I found another program called Mendability. You can google this. It is soooo much like brain balance but doesn't come with the $5800 price tag. I think the best option they have is like $89 a month. I am considering trying this before sinking so much money into brain balance.

I don't think they claim to "cure" anything. But does it help? Probably. Anything therapy done intensively especially involving diet changes can be helpful. The question is does it help more than standard therapy. Personally I think it is priced too high. Many of the things (diet/supplementation) in there can be done by just reading a basic biomed book that one can borrow free from the library and looking into physical and cognitive exercises. There is study published by UC Irvine which showed a set of 30 simple exercises produced better results than standard therapy (OT/ST/PT/ABA) - response rate was like 60%, so not effective for all. You can read that for free as well. But it does require intensive work / time commitment and research to design your own program. Not sure what is brain balance curriculum/program - but the idea of it makes sense to me. Not sure if they are any good at what they claim to do or if have demonstrated any efficacy.

@A MyAutismTeam Member when you're done with that book, check out the next one. Reconnected Kid. Those books are helpful and I have seen a few changes in Sam from following the books. Also, from my above post, not only is Mendability way cheaper yet same concept, it's done at home. The brain balance is done at the center then the parent continues the work at home. Not saying we won't try brain balance again, I just think the price tag on it is rediculous. Priceless if it works. I spoke with a local speech therapist about the center since we have one right in our town. She said she has seen a handful of kids go thru the bb program and that they didn't see much improvement. And the ones that did show some improvement were higher functioning to start with. My Sam is low functioning.... Idk... But I have to give my son every opportunity I can. So we are going to do Mendability first. Mostly cause our wallet isn't very deep. Good luck everyone. Xo

We have not, but I know of a family with a HF-ASD daughter, and they swear by it! It sounds kind of science fiction crazy when the Dad was explaining how it works. But, they say it has helped their daughter with impulse control, and being able to listen better, follow directions, and she's talking about her day at school when she gets home. All things she struggled with before. I hear insurance doesn't usually cover this, and it's expensive....otherwise we'd give it a try!
