I am thinking about using it for my Kindergartner.
I used HCV about 5 yrs ago and didn't like it. Personal, faith based reasons were my driving force. Last year my oldest did a class on FLVS & liked it.
Thank you cor your reply.Hillsborough has thier own vs though. HVS for elem.and when looking up info on fldoe it looks as though my son would be able to keep his iep and go to homeschool for speech/language and also have to still al testing thier as well. I am so confused. :(
I could not tell you about Hillsborough in particular, but it is our understanding that if you use virtual school for education, you lose any McKay score that you might have. That means if you want to send your son to private school in the future, he may not qualify for McKay funding until he has been back in public school for a while.
In our case, it would take a year to regain his existing McKay score.
Other than that, I have heard both good and bad things about Florida Virtual School. Some kids prefer it because it is very structured, while other kids prefer the more "go-at-your-own-pace" approach of the private alternatives. If you have decided on homeschooling, it may be worth the trouble to experiment with both.
The private version I have heard about is more expensive, and it is offered through one of the "Bob Jones" teaching programs, but it allows kids to put off certain tasks for a day or two and then catch up all at once. For some kids with Aspergers, this is hugely preferable. For others, it is another potential stumbling block.
Some people have religious objections to Bob Jones University, but I am not that familiar with the actual teachings that show up in the curriculum, so I can't say if any of their distinctive teachings show up in the online courses.
