How Do You Keep Your Child From Chewing Their Clothes Up
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son constantly chews on his clothes and blankets it is so bad he has gone threw two winter coats this year. I have two younger children that I hope to pass his clothes on to but at the rate he's chewing threw shirts and tops I won't have any.

Peggy Hello you asked about cloths chewing for your son- I have worked with and cared for many individuals on the spectrum- in my experience the chewing bit is a sensory processing glitch in there system - it most likely stems from a nurological component. the Myo-muncie or football guard in the mouth may help- or invest in some socks and put them over his hands to chew- Has your son seen a neurologist? does he have seziures? the chewing can be a stemming thing. medicatioin' to consider for OCD explore those with your doctor- may be considered .
Kind Regards and God bless your journey

My daughter does the same thing so her school started her on a chew necklace that she chews on instead. The trick is getting them to use it, and they did that by an ABA based reward system and correction.

Every time she went to chew her cloths they asked her to use the necklace, and if she did they have her a preferred toy or food item. Now she just uses the necklace. It did take about a month to get that done
